............as in President of the I AM A DICK club. Many Ranger fans are upset by remarks made by Mike Milbury, GM of the NY Islanders. He referred to the potential full house in Nassau as low IQ Ranger fans. Insensitive and crude.....to say the least. But I'm not bothered by it. I'm a New Yorker........and a Ranger fan and I've been insulted by much better than the likes of a Milbury. That includes some of you by the way.
The 6-2 win for the Rangers did much to hurt the streaks and egos that have been building on the Island but both were fragile to begin with. This Islander team has new parts and so far, have faced little adversity. The Rangers challenged the Islanders and the Isles failed to respond. But before the game, it was the Rangers who filled the underdog role. Milbury was feeling it. The press was looking at him in a slightly different way. He has a first place club, some real NHL proven talent and owners with money.
It was his big chance.....hosting the big guys from NYC right here on the Island, to really get the respect he feels he has been denied all these years. Too bad, Mike just sucked the big one. All he could think of to be clever was a lazy attack on the intelligence of Ranger fans ? C'mon Mike.....that's all you could come up with ? Funny, some have suggested that after 14 games into the season that Milbury should be apologized to for all the nasty things that were said about him during the last bunch of years. No chance...he's earned it.
Milbury and the Islanders were recently referred to as "the Rikers Island" of hockey. And for good reason. They haven't made the playoffs since the 4 game sweep in '94. They've traded away more talent than many teams currently have. Last place became home. All the while Mike has made his little comments on the Rangers, it's GM and it's fans. In the NHL dictionary, Milbury's picture shows up multiple times.....next to the words 'joke' and 'laughing stock' just for starters.
The acquisitions of Peca, Yashin and Osgood have turned things around for Mike. Over one summer he has managed to change the Islander fortunes. Their great start and current lead in the standings if proof of that. But we're barely a month into the season. There is still plenty of time for the Isles to fall. How they rebound from this loss is key. But tell me, did you really think that Mike acquired a new personality over the summer as well ? I don't think he had enough talent stock piled for a deal like that.
So why were you surprised to hear about this ? Why were you shocked ? Why does this piss you off ????? It shouldn't. This was just Mike being Mike. F*ck him. There are too many more important things to worry about than some guy just being himself. If I was there I would have just told him to go hit himself with a shoe, you sideshow clown of a GM. But hey.....that's just me. For those that are pissed and do want to complain....by all means go ahead. I'd love to see the guy have to address the media and apologize. I know he would feel like such a dick.......and I guess that would make sense....no ?
