Melvin Smiles
Wednesday - October 16, 2002

Just for our buddy Melvin........the Isles won their first game of the season last night in OT. Yawn.

Newsday - "We really pulled together as a team," said Holik

Newsday again - "HE DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH HIM, YOU MORON!"

Newsday yet again - "Anybody can make a mistake on a call like that," Sather said of referee Dan Marouelli.

The Daily News - "Trottier is an Islander, a spy behind the Ranger bench. He might as well be Reggie Miller coaching the Knicks, or Carl Yastrzemski managing the Yankees."

Daily News again - "Rangers coach Bryan Trottier, who didn't match lines much in his first three games, gave Holik what he wanted last night. And the big center gave Trottier what he needed, shutting Sundin's line down at even strength in the Rangers' 5-4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs."

NY Post - "We learned something from what happened in Pittsburgh," said Matthew Barnaby, whose breakaway goal at 12:24 ended his team's scoreless streak at 143:26 and jump-started a three-goal rampage within 5:57. "We can't get unraveled when things go against us, we have to stick to our system."

The Star-Ledger - "We have the benefit of slow motion and replay. The referee has to make a decision right there," he said. "Something happens in a fraction of a second, and you have to make a judgment call."
