| Mini-Card Preface |
|
|
I didn't have many comments on individual
players to begin with, as there weren't many particular highs or lows until
that dreadful, horrendous 3rd period. I'll point out what needs to be pointed
out here.
Blackburn with a very good first two periods
and a terrible 3rd. That second goal was awful. Third goal wasn't very
pretty, either. In one way it's too bad because he did play well in the
first two, but this isn't The Care Bears Happy Funtime League. It's the
f-ing NHL, and a bad goal in a huge spot is a bad goal in a huge spot.
D+.
Dvorak opened the door for the Isles with
his unconscionably STUPID holding the stick penalty in the neutral zone.
I can't stand Dvorak. F.
Lindros was okay, so was Bure, despite neither
of them scoring. Every time the Rangers lose and Lindros and Bure don't
score, everyone talks about them, which has absolute crap to do with why
the Rangers lost today. C+ each.
Rem Murray and Matthew Barnaby, not enough
from either of them. C- each.
Dale Purinton, two stupid penalties, D. Keep
your head up, Dale, because the spectre of Karpa is begining to hang over
your head, I predict.
Petrovicky, great hitter, but I think this
2nd line facination has to end. He can't play offense worth a damn. B-
Good games were had by Poti, Lefevbre, Nedved.
B each.
Somewhere between C and B- for everyone else. |

| COACHING STAFF: |

F |
F because these 3rd period meltdowns continue
on, especially today when everyone and their mother KNEW the Isles would
come out hard in the 3rd. F because the godawful power play keeps plugging
away in all it's pathetic glory with nary a change, shades of Ron Low.
F because Trottier is too unemoitional, at least outwardly. F for no time
out in the 3rd when the team really needed it. F because Trottier seemed
to take it all in stride in the post-game press conference, where a GOOD
head coach like Pat Burns would be livid. F because our record is a PATHETIC
6-11-3 under Trottier. F because I feel like it. |

| 1st PERIOD: |
|
B- |
My God, does that power play SUCK! Suck,
suck, suck. Is it okay if I just fill this column up with a bunch of sucks?
Three huge chances to grab the early mometnum (not to mention the lead!)
and not only didn't they score, they didn't even come CLOSE! No one was
moving, usually no one was in front of the net - what do they expect? The
rest of the period, Isles had all the momentum early, Rangers had it all
late. Lot of good hits. Rangers were outshot 10-7 but it was 6-0 at one
point. |
| 2nd PERIOD: |
|
B |
Boy, is that penalty kill good. Good, good,
good. 3 PK's by the Rangers, most of them without serious Islander chances.
Isles outshot the Rangers again, this time 10-9, but the Rangers owned
about 3/4ths of the period, especially the first 10 minutes or so, where
the play was almost exclusively in the Isles end and most Rangers were
hitting anything that moved. Isles did dominate at least a good 5 minute
chunk of that period, though, but as is their shocking new-found
way, the Rangers didn't yeild much of anything from close in. Just about
every Isles chance was from outside the slot, which really takes advantage
of Blackburn's strong positioning skills. |
| 3rd PERIOD: |
|
F |
What the hell was that? The Rangers came
out in the period like they won the game already. They stopped skating
and stopped hitting while the Islanders cranked both of those facets up
by ten. Disgusting. Absolutely nauseating. Worst period of the season by
a MILE! Blackburn didn't help things, either, especially goal #2. Nothing
else to say on it. They were so outplayed it was gross. |
| OVERALL: |
|
F |
I don't even feel like writing this the Rangers
were so disappointing in the 3rd period. Not just because it was against
the Islanders, because it was pitiful, period. Analysis? Here's the analysis:
Rangers stopped playing, plain and simple. Stopped playing at everything,
and every man from Blackburn on down. The Isles came out with something
to prove in the period. The Rangers rarely have anything to prove when
it's on the line. DO NOT TAKE THIS GAME LIGHTLY. I think it showed when
it comes down to it, the Rangers don't have enough. This will not be a
playoff team as they stand now, I think you can bank on that. |

I know this would never happen but I would like the entire Ranger team and coaching staff to ride home on the LIRR and listen to the stinking Islander fans (drunk on beer and their power trip)for an hour. We had a loud mouth who kept it up from Penn to Bethpage. There was a spontaneous round of appaulse when he got off.
The team loses the game and it's 5 oclock and they can go pick up their dates or go to a film premiere. The fans still suffer after the game is over. There was a better fight in the stands then there was on the ice. It seemed like only Darius wanted to stick it to the Islanders and make some impression.
Why the hell are all those stinking Islander fans at the Garden anyway? Oops I forgot, the Rangers can't even sell out the Garden to THEIR OWN FANS anymore.
At one point in the game, they had 6 minutes of power play and two shots! Another drunken Islander fan behind me kept yelling "Shoot the puck, Barry". I yelled out "Get Darcy Tucker's phone number". He wasn't amused!
When I got home, I ordered the NHL Center Ice package and watched some good hockey games, Toronto and Detriot. Maybe that's where all the former Ranger Season ticketholder's are!
I agree with you Roach man. This team sucks and most likely miss the playoffs for the 6th straight sesason. As I have said it before in these pages, I don't mind losing, as long as the team goes down battling. The Fish Sticks came out to play hard yesterday. The Rangers treated the game like any other. For god's sake, this was a game against an old time rival that is in the same division AND that, come April, will be fighting for a playoff spot with the team. You have to get your motor running for these type of games. Rangers' fans should not be surprise, this organization, from the Dolans to the new PA guy, has shown no fire in their belly. If someone wants more proof, read today's Checketts article in the Daily News. Losing is tolerated as long as the members in the organization get along well. Yes, it is disturbing to see so many Fish Sticks' fans ar MSG. Maybe that will tell the morons at MSG that their teams are lazy and heartless. There is nothing more insulting than to have a noticeable number of fans from the opposition cheering in your own pond. Just ask the fans from the Swamp
Hey Darcy Tucker Your the best I get to know a lot about you and I learn alot from you like to hit and stuff. My favourite team is Toronto because your on it. Your my favourite player. Can you please send me an photo of you and get it autographed beause im doing an project on you and I want a good project and a picture of you thanks.hears my mail addres.
