More On Kovalev......
Tuesday - February 11, 2003

Troll Boy is back

Troll Boy
The Rodent has plenty of new stuff to pour through. It's true.....I had to call him when the news of this trade came down and fill him in. He did in fact use "bad" words.

Let's take a peek at what the people of Pittsburgh are reading today.....

Penguins live - "This is the best deal we could make for what we think we need in our lineup to make the playoffs," Patrick said. "Based on that, we believe we’ve made a deal that will enable us to make the playoffs and have a good run."

Penguins live again - A few minutes after practice Monday, Alexei Kovalev joked about teammate Steve McKenna’s newfound scoring touch. “They’ve found someone to replace me,” Kovalev said. “They can trade me anytime now.”

Post-Gazette - "Naturally, it's no fun when you have to let somebody like Alexei go," Patrick said. "He's meant an awful lot to us, and not only on the ice. He's forever giving to the community and just a great human. He's an individual we don't like to see go, but the fact of the matter is we couldn't have kept him beyond this year, so ... we had to make the move."

Post Gazette again - "It's not a good thing to play right away against the team you played for," said Kovalev, who did just that after the Penguins acquired him from New York in 1998.

Slam gives their version of the trade here.

From MSG.com, here's JD's article and here's Mr. Fischler's.

You may also wish to read the posts on our messageboards as they are usually filled with stuff worth reading.

UGH. Fischler's article made me nauseaus.
SF: "But I also know that there are almost two months left to the regular season. A Rangers' win Wednesday in Sunrise against the Panthers could start a winning run." <-who the heck is he kidding? Yea we got Kovalev back for a song as expected, but that is what makes me hate this trade! The NHL is headed for some serious financial problems and it is a shame that NYR can continue to buy all of these "superstars" while it seems the majority of the NHL teams will soon be headed for bankruptcy. The real shame for us, the NYR fans is that no matter how many millions we throw at these guys, as soon as they put on a Ranger jersey they don't even come close to earning their ridiculous salaries! Lindros was supposed to save NYR in 2001-2002, Bure in late 2001-2002, Holik and Kasperitis in 2002-2003, now Kovalev. Meanwhile Lindros has considerably more dumb-a$$ penalty minutes than points, Bure is injured more often than not, Holik is not the wrecking crew he was in NJ, Kasperitis just plain SUCKS, and I just can't see what Kovy is going to do to help this bunch of overpaid bums.
Sorry to be so negative but I really can't see the bright side anymore when it comes to this team!!
