Wednesday News
Wednesday - March 05, 2003

I was going to take today off......but then all these links just popped onto the page.

The Rodent talks about Iggy and other things.

Newsday - About his contact with Button, whose Flames are last in the West and have Chris Drury and Craig Conroy, Sather replied: "I wouldn't know, because it takes the guy two weeks to call me back. That's disrespectful. How do you do your job as a manager like that? How do you wait two weeks to call someone back? It's just bad manners."

More Newsday - Jim Gregory, the NHL senior vice president of hockey operations, and Mike Murphy, vice president of hockey operations, measured the 6-3, 208-pound Snow's equipment and found each piece to be within legal proportions.

Daily News - "Well, we're playing well, no question about it," Messier said. "We're playing a lot better because, up and down the lineup, we're a lot different. We're playing with confidence. We feel we have four lines that can contribute and cause problems for a lot of teams in matchups."

Post - The Post has learned from a trustworthy informant that Sather - or in his stead, assistant GM Don Maloney - is negotiating with Columbus GM Doug MacLean, who has made 31-year-old impending Group III winger Geoff Sanderson (24-23-47) available to the Rangers, but wants 26-year-old Radek Dvorak, just now finding his game, as the return.

Times - Boston may still control its own fate, but the Rangers have made things interesting. A big reason is the return of Leetch, who missed 31 games after badly bruising his left ankle on Dec. 3.

Journal News - Sather said he has considered changes to the Eric Lindros-Alexei Kovalev-Matthew Barnaby line after Lindros went without a shot Monday and Kovalev had just three. "They certainly have to play better than that,'' Sather said. "We can't have that line not contributing offensively.''

The Battle of Ontario turned out to be quite a wild game. Perhaps the Sens are tough enough this year.....we'll see. Here's more from TSN.....check out the pic of Pat Quinn holding a stick as if he was going to use it.

Jagr owes 3 million in taxes ????? Yikes !

Stan Fischler has his notes & quotes thing up.....check this out - Can you imagine the Rangers playing a game before an NHL-record crowd of 40,000 people? It could happen next season if current plans jell. The venue would be Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium -- Oilers vs. Blueshirts. Other clubs are being considered -- according to Oilers VP Allan Watt -- but the Rangers top the list. Should it happen, the game would commemorate both the NHL's 80th anniversary season and Edmonton's 25th in the league.
