I'm not dead yet....
Wednesday - April 02, 2003

Bring out your dead!

Bring out your dead!
Like the famous Monty Python skit from the Holy Grail movie......the Rangers are not dead yet.

[english accent]: "You're not fooling anyone you know".

[The Dead Collector glances up and down the street furtively, then silences the Body with his a whack of his club.]

Look, I know and have known for some time now that the Rangers were not going to make the playoffs. So I won't whine about that now. Sure, they could win the next two and the Isles could lose their three games.....it could happen. I'm just glad we didn't get eliminated by the Isles in their house. And.....as the Rodent pointed out, we won the LaFontaine trophy !

Daily News - "We needed a win," Rangers center Bobby Holik said. "But we're not dead yet."

Newsday - The Islanders last night failed to deliver a knockout blow when they failed to preserve a 2-0 third-period lead, allowing the Rangers to stay alive with a 2-2 tie at Nassau Coliseum.

More Newsday - There was no suggestion of pulling goaltender Mike Dunham at the end of regulation or in OT, when an empty-net goal against takes away the point earned for getting to the extra session. "That's risky," Sather said. "You're really gambling with not being in the playoffs to do it at this time."

Post - "I'm not going to lie, I'd rather be in their position than ours," Matt Barnaby said, "but we're not going to go give up."

Times - 26-year-old rookie ALES PISA, whom the Rangers obtained at the March 11 trading deadline in the deal that brought ANSON CARTER from Edmonton, made his Rangers debut.

More Times - The National Hockey League has spent all winter culling the herd. Now the sport gets serious. The Islanders and the Rangers, those two edgy rivals, met last night in one of hockey's late-season survival-of-the-fittest competitions.

Journal News - Here is a line you probably didn't think you'd ever read in this space: Sather is easily the best coach the Rangers have had since Colin Campbell. That's not saying much, but he has also proven what most people knew — that the coach is the most important person on a team.
