Disputed Goal in game 5 ?

goal

Oh the agony and the horror of a hockey-less summer is near. Please, let us have a triple overtime game....and maybe even a game seven. Just don't let hockey end....not now. Now before anyone of you start trying to remind me of the draft, the free agent signings....whatever, hockey to me is games. Goofy Mike Milbury trades, while entertaining, are NOT hockey. So make sure you savor each faceoff, each glove save, every hit and everything that is hockey because tonight, the Cup is in the house.

Ah yes.....the Cup. I've seen the cup up close several times. Had my picture taken with it....touched it. One day in 1997 I heard a radio report that the Cup would be at a local mall so on a whim, I went. I was perhaps the 15th person on line of about 1000 when the Cup appeared. The hair on your body stands up. An NHL guy noticed a young man in a wheelchair and asked us in line if it would be OK for the guy in the wheelchair to go ahead of us. Of course, we all said yes. Then the Cup keeper guy picked it up and placed it on the lap of the young man......and he cried. Along with myself, there wasn't a dry eye in the place.

I'll always remember that image of the Cup on the lap of a guy in a wheelchair and the look on his face. I have seen that same look on NHL players when it's their turn to skate with it. It's that same damn look and to me, that's what makes the Stanley Cup so special. So tonight, forget that you're a Rangers fan or whatever team you root for that's not playing. Remember that you are a hockey fan. And if the Devils win tonight....try to enjoy the moment, the handshake....the Cup. Oh, and pray for a game seven.

The Rodent gives his take on recent Ranger rumblings.

Here's an article on the Sens...coulda, woulda, shoulda.

According to NHL sources and a broadcast report on Canada's TSN, Rangers owner Jim Dolan and Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis have discussed a possible swap of Jagr for Eric Lindros.

Um....what in the hell is Jim Dolan doing talking hockey.....about trades no less ? Somebody get Glen on the phone.....QUICK !

The Rangers site is really geared up for the draft....for those who need to know, go there. They even have draft history stuff.

Bird,
I had the pleasure of being in Washington, D.C. for game 4 of the Red Wings /Caps final in 1998. My brother in law Joe and I miraculously scored tix thru Ticketron before Game 5 of the Buffalo/Caps semi and had to sweat out the game. Well , anyway we flew out of Boston day of the game and arrived in time to go to train station near MCI center to see all the NHL hardware , and of course the Cup. That's as close as I ever got to it.Wasn't able to touch it though because it was roped off. The place was nuts. Seemed like there were more Red Wings fans in the building than Caps fans. Place was rocking. Best thing ever was seeing the players skate the Cup live and particularly seeing Stevie Y give the Cup to Vladdy first and wheeling him around the ice w/it. I will tell you I cried too. With about 15 min left the Jumbotron put Vladdy up on the screen. He was sitting right about where we were but on the opposite side of the rink. Coolest thing was the Red Wings spotted him there and all stood up on the bench and began banging their sticks on the boards. VERY COOL ! That is by far my best ever sports memory.

Almost forgot. Excellent post for today. I will deinitely savor the game tonight. I am hoping for a sevnth game because there is nothing better than a Stanley Cup Final 7th game. NOTHING! For all the complaining about the series being boring and all I have enjoyed every game. Maybe because these are the last games of the yr. Fortunately for me I get to at least play some hockey starting in July and this will keep me happy. I can't wait.
