Nothing Shocking
Tuesday - July 15, 2003

The new Janes Addiction is good....real good. The CD comes out in a week or so, I recommend it highly.

OK....back to Rangerland.

NY Post - Still no word on Mark Messier's intentions for next season. "I think I owe it to him to let him make his mind up," Sather said. "[Assuming Messier wants to play], we still would have to make a deal."

Larry has several issues covered today....Leetch, Mess, de Vries and the arbitration filing for Alexei Kovalev, Tom Poti and Anson Carter.

Newsday - But that may be all of the big money Sather will throw around this summer on the sluggish free-agent market. "I don't see us going after anyone else at this stage," he said.

Daily News - As the Rangers' best player, Leetch would figure to slot in at about $9 million per season on a roster that includes Pavel Bure ($10 million), Bobby Holik ($9.5 million) and Eric Lindros ($9.3 million). But this market is unlikely to produce a rival team's offer approaching that figure.

Dubi from RFC - Back to Brooks: His advocacy of Laviolette for the position of Ranger assistant as a replacement for Jim Schoenfeld (who, it now appears, will return to the Rangers along with Terry O'Reilly), based as it is in large part on what his sources in the locker room (read: Eric Lindros) tell him about how the players feel about Schoenfeld, is yet another reflection of what ails the Rangers. So the players don't like Schoenfeld because of his abrasive, demanding personality. They don't like the bad cop. Well, heaven forbid a coach should try to kick their butt!

ESPN - Sather is still trying to re-sign top defensemen Brian Leetch -- one of the few remaining marquee players on the free-agent market -- and Boris Mironov. Sather said the signing of de Vries wouldn't have any effect on negotiations with those players.

The Hocket Rodent - I'm not necessarily "high" on De Vries. I haven't a clue as to how he'll cope outside of Denver. First off, the air is thicker at sea level. More wind resistance on MSG ice, doncha know. Or is it the slush? I keep forgetting.

More later ----}- Bird
