Today there will be many people at the Hockeybird house as we celebrate my wife's um.....21st (yeah, that's it) birthday. Truth be told, there are some activities that she can do as if she were a 21 yr old....and no, I'm not going to elaborate.

Slam on the WHA - But whatever else the people behind a revival of the old WHA (1972-79) have going for them, they have a superb sense of timing. Just at a time the National Hockey League is trying to put the brakes on salaries, along comes the league that helped drive them there in the first place.
TSN - The Montreal Canadiens will have a familiar face behind the bench next season as Scotty Bowman makes his return with the bleu, blanc et rouge.
Stan Fischler - It'll be awfully interesting to see how Sunday New York Times Magazine editor Jeff Z. Klein handles Mark Messier in his upcoming bio which debuts in October. A preview blurb calls Mess "a contemplative student of philosophy, a tireless community figure and a man who leads a complex emotional life." We wonder what he means by that!
ESPN with players on Fighting in the NHL - "I hope not. Fighting helps keep our game more honest. From my international experience, there's a lot more stick work and cheap stuff that goes on and there's no accountability without fighting. Nobody has to worry about getting beat up. As cruel as it sounds, it helps police our game."
CTNow - The Wolf Pack will continue to play 10 games this season against rivals Springfield, Providence and Bridgeport.
With a lot of our staff on vacation....or in the cases of Rocha and Leedsy, hung over every day, the dearth of articles has slowed to a snails pace. Have no fear, we'll keep you entertained somehow. Or, maybe we'll just start a fight with another site.....man I hate the summer.
