Troll Boy Will Sign
Tuesday - July 22, 2003

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that this coming NHL season will be a fun one. But more than that, I am also thinking like all of you that it will be followed by an ugliness.....the labor talks. Peter Young, Director of Hockey operations for the WHA and I were speaking last week and he pointed out that 88% of all NHL players will not be under contract for the '04-'05 season. The NHLPA has a huge strike fund.....it could be a long stoppage. As for Mr. Young, we should probably schedule an interview with him as the WHA looks like it will open their season at the same time the NHL will go dark.....and he knows his hockey.

Now I don't look at this as one side is good, one bad. They both deserve certain things....the players are the game and generate the income while the team owners foot the bill, so they are entitled to earn a profit. Some teams lose money each season (or so they claim). But if they can't agree on how to cut a deal here, I'll hold them both responsible. It's the people around the game who will be hurt the most. Hotdog venders and ticket takers.....and all the rest. Practice rinks and equipment guys all will pay the price and that is what will really upset me.

The Rodent - It was December 28, 2002 in a game hosted by the Panthers when Dumas and his father in law officiated a 2-1 overtime Ranger victory. New York outshot Florida 37-20. Both teams scored one goal on the power play during regulation and Darius Kasparaitis won it about a minute into OT.

Newsday - MacPherson's frozen body was discovered last week by a snow groomer at the summer ski resort in the Stubaier Alps, his identification in his pocket.

Daily News - The Rangers are believed close to signing RW Alexei Kovalev to a one-year deal for approximately $6.5 million.

NY Post - The Post has learned that the Sather had spoken to both Peter Laviolette and Herb Brooks about becoming his lead assistant.

Canada.com - Bodychecking in hockey should be banned until players are at least 17 or 18 years old to reduce the risk of brain-damaging concussions, an article in the Canadian Medical Association Journal suggests.

Slam - In fact, (Mike) York was still wearing a splint when he walked down the aisle at his own wedding July 5 after having surgery to strengthen the scaphoid a month earlier at the University of Michigan.

**Update**

I have reposted a review of a product aimed at hockey players to prevent lacebite while skating. I did this review three years ago (I think) and it never made it to the new server....well, here it is now.

More later as time allows ----}- Bird
