Goalies and Other News
Tuesday - August 26, 2003
The most important position in all of sports ? Well....I think so. A high quality keeper can make a good team do great things. Knowing there's a guy back there to cover for mistakes can give a team the freedom to take some chances. But that's for a Birdcage article sometime. Today there are a few keepers in the news. The Pens traded the Swedish Moose, Johan Hedberg to the 'Nucks. I had been wondering what the reaction to last seasons playoff disappointment would be as it seemed that 'Nucks fans wanted Cloutier's head. I guess now both will get a shot at the number one spot even though most articles suggest Hedburg in a back up role. Why not stop by a Canucks message board and see what they say. Here's an ESPN article on Belfour, Tretiak and the Eagles son, it's a few days old. I'm sure you have read this....but here's the link anyway (so I can stick with my theme). We still have the whole Hasek/Cujo goalie thing to look forward to. Waivers will be very interesting this year. Yzerman signed on for more time in Detroit and Chris Drury signed in Buffalo. Sportsnet.ca has the wrap up. It was just a few days ago when I posted a link saying that Neil Smith was about to get the GM job in Toronto. Yesterday I saw that a different guy was up front. With nothing official just yet, read these headlines from Slam: Welcome to Loserville - Mike Ulmer New GM is doomed to failure - Al Strachan And I thought being a Ranger fan was hard.....you Leafs fans really have it hard. John Ferguson Jr. is thought to get the job and for his sake, I hope the job comes with a flak jacket. Some of you may be following the two Canadian players who are under investigation of rape in Sweden. One last item.....my buddy from the WHA2 team, the Jacksonville Barracudas e-mailed me about an e-bay auction featuring some Ron Dugauy stuff. The money goes to help the Children's Miracle Networks so if you want to bid....by all means, go ahead. While Ron wanted to do the interview with us, we still haven't figured out how to pull it off as Ron doesn't really do the internet thing. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at August 26, 2003 11:06 AMeMail this entry!
