Bure Done
Friday - September 12, 2003
Larry Brooks called this one. In our latest interview, Mr. Brooks said and I quote, "Bure probably will not be able to pass the pre-season physical. Even if he does, it's unlikely he will be able to play at all." Newsday - Pavel Bure went to the MSG Training Center yesterday morning in Greenburgh, N.Y. and heard the bad, and inevitable, news. He will not be medically cleared to play and almost certainly will not play for the Rangers this season; the offseason rest for his oft-repaired right knee had no impact. More Newsday - At 30, Lindros did not face an offseason filled with doubts about ever playing again because of his physical condition. In some ways, this was worse - people questioned his ability after he totaled only 53 points in 81 games last season. He had averaged at least one point per game in nine seasons before last year. Daily News - Sather yesterday said he had pretty much known since late last season that Bure wouldn't be able to play. Sather said that knowledge contributed to his obtaining wingers Alexei Kovalev and Anson Carter toward season's end. NY Post - Bure did not accompany the club to camp. He will follow whatever program he's given by the Ranger medical staff, though he's unsure whether he'll remain in New York, go to one of his homes in Florida, or return to Moscow. NY Times - "It's like 'Groundhog Day,' '' Leetch said as he entered the team's hotel on crutches. Leetch wears a protective boot for 23 hours a day to prevent fluids from building around his Achilles' tendon. He will not skate during training camp. Andy from the boards posted this link. Funny stuff on Messier and Richter. The Rodent covers a possible Sather move. I'm sure you have read Mr. Rocha's off season report card. It really makes me happy to see Mr. Rocha's cards again.....it means we will see hockey soon. A long time reader who's attending school in Fla. sent us an interesting piece looking back at the Rangers through qoutes. I posted it in the Birdcage and it's a very interesting trip back over the last three years. Thanks Chris ! Boston and the Oil sign a bunch of guys or something. The Avs will retire Patrick Roys number. I want to welcome Rightbug to the staff here at Hockeybird. He'll be helping out with the news here on the front page. I plan on adding another news person as soon as I can figure out the scheduling around here.....but I'll do whatever I can to make sure you guys get what you've come to expect at Hockeybird. Whatever the heck that is. Johnny Cash passed away. I got to see him play live once....he was great. I also saw that John Ritter of Three's Company fame died on the set of his new show. COME ON! Larry Brooks predicted Bure would fail the physical? This was common knowledge for well over a month. Big Deal. Hey Bird! Thought you weren't going to kiss Brooks' ass? Post a comment
