And So It Begins.....
Saturday - September 13, 2003

Well folks, we made it. Here we are in early September with camp open. There were times during the summer when I wondered if we really would get here.

So now let me get this straight....Richter retires, Bure is gone for the season and Leetch is hurt, again. Messier is back with an option for another season....yup, we are definitely back into hockey season. Oh well....let's see what the locals are saying.

Newsday - The kids want to get noticed, too. Dominic Moore, an All-American at Harvard last year, crunched Messier during the scrimmage with what Sather said was an accidental hit; LaCouture and Barnaby went after the young Ivy Leaguer. Lindros opened a gash on Ronald Petrovicky's nose during a coverage drill.

Daily News - An hour of practice, with most drills focused on defensive principles, opened the proceedings. Ten minutes didn't elapse before Sather had the players gathered around a board to diagram positional deployment.

NY Post - Holik - also lauded by Sather for his off-season conditioning - was asked yesterday about this camp. "I'm not going to say anything about last year," he said. "All I know is this is a lot more serious. We are getting down to business."

Journal News - "I just had a challenging time, especially with the ice at the Garden,'' Lindros said. "The ice at the Garden is awful. You want to do everything in your power to handle the puck under tough conditions.''

Outsidethegarden has a few articles that you should check out, as always.

The Oilers have "locked out" Mike Comrie until he is signed.

The two Canadian players accused of rape have been released as there was no rape according to police. The two spent 18 days in the can while under suspicion. That kinda sucks....no ?

"Ticket prices are too darn high," said Jacobs. "Our prices are high. We've been chasing away the fans with it over the last couple of years. Or every dollar that we've increased ticket prices, we've spent more than two on a player." - Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs.

Bob McKenzie says - When NHL referees report Friday for their annual training camp in Fort Erie, Ont., emotions may be running high. Many of the zebras are upset and even outraged that the league fired veteran ref Mark Faucette in the off-season, just a little shy of his 1,000th NHL game.

Several of our longtime and loyal readers are up in Vermont to witness camp. Rightbug, our newest news monkey is there as well giving us a chance to get some good inside stuff on camp. Look for that over the next few days.
