I'm not sure if I'm very happy about hockey returning.....or upset that the Rangers blew a 3 goal lead and are right back to thier losing ways. I know, it's only the first game of the pre-season.....no reason to get upset just yet, right ?

Newsday - A second-period letdown got the Rangers off to a shaky preseason start Friday night as the host Dallas Stars skated off with a 5-3 victory.
Daily News - Boucher, David Oliver and Rob Valicevic each scored in the final minute of the second period after the Rangers had built a 3-0 lead behind two goals by Alexei Kovalev.
Post - Dunham stopped 27 of 32 shots for the Rangers, who play again tonight in Detroit.
NY Times - Sergei Zubov scored at 3:15 in the third period to extend the Stars' lead.
ESPN recap - Kovalev scored his first goal on the power play at 7:43 in the first period on a wrap-around goal with assists from Petr Nedved and Jan Hlavac. Kovalev was set up again by Nedved and Hlavac at 8:26 in the second, giving the Rangers a 3-0 lead.
Slam has this on John Brophy. I post that as one of our board members posted this on the Long Island Ducks.
This is just one of the reasons I like Bret Hull. He says anything on his mind and is also a decent guy.
From the Detroit free press a few days ago - Lewis said Hasek wouldn't play in the exhibition opener Friday night against Washington, but would appear at Joe Louis Arena on Saturday night against the New York Rangers.
