Rastaman Vibrations
Saturday - September 27, 2003
We are now ten days away from opening night in the NHL, twelve days away from the Rangers opener. I'm getting two different vibes from you guys. The first vibe is the excitement about this season beginning....and like most seasons, there is hope, optimism and the chance that the Rangers have a good year. I'm with you guys.....not that I have any real solid reasons. But like a lot of you I am choosing to look at the positives and trying to block out the last six seasons. The second vibe I'm sensing is the doom and gloom, here we go again vibe. I can't knock you guys for it as I'm not stupid.....and I saw how the movie ended over the last few years. Now, both of you groups....sit up straight, put on your ties and speak English only......and NO cell phone calls while reading Hockeybird ! We're gonna have some structure around here. OK, that's better. Here's the news.... Newsday has two interesting points. On Barnaby, "Matthew played well last year, he works hard, he's a good guy and he wants to be here," Sather said. "This isn't get-rid-of-Matthew-Barnaby day." Speaking of Matt....read this quote from his site, Our motto - "No Golf in May 2004." AMEN ! Newsday's second point is on how the kids sent down should be back up after the 3 games in 3 nights for the Wolf*Pack. "The Rangers have three in four nights next week, so expect both defensemen and perhaps Moore to return." The Daily News reports that Leetch could be ready for the opener, echo's the Barnaby stuff and reports that Blackburn has been evaluated but without results. Larry Brooks of the NY Post is pissed. He's pissed at us here at Hockeybird and he seems pissed at the Rangers. Today he whines about the kids being sent down without taking the Pack's schedule into account. In addition, exactly which kid (besides maybe Moore) did Larry see making an impact and securing a spot on the NYR roster ? Look, I agree with Uncle Larry that we will need to find a way to get a more youthful roster at some point.....but Slats feels the need to win now (or at least score a playoff spot) and these AHLers are not going to get us there this year. So, settle down Larry....don't be so angry. It's not helping anything anyway. Andrew Gross from the Journal News spends some html on Anson Carter and the Lindros line. Anson understands the frustration that Ranger fans have but suggests that his line will be ready to contribute this season. How about visiting Outside the Garden ? They always have something good over there...say hello to Fish for me. Sportsnet.ca had this on the Brodeur - Snow feud, "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones," Snow told Newsday. "Marty should worry more about his personal matters." While Garth has a point it doesn't change the fact that he's been guilty of the oversized pads for years. Again, I look forward to these two guys getting it on this season. A few days ago, TSN discussed the upcoming storm that is following the Wings and their three goalies. About two weeks ago I got an e-mail from a writer (I've read some of his stuff....he's a real writer) Anyway, he reads Hockeybird and likes it. I know, I was surprised too. Bryant is working on an article and came across this link on Adam Graves. I guess we should take some time to look back on what Adam gave to this city and this team. On the lighter side of things, one of our message board posters doesn't like rumor sites very much so he started his own.....and it's very funny. I wish to thank all of you who posted on the boards, posted comments or sent me an e-mail on the advertising thing. Not one of you has a problem with the way we've handled it and I thank you for your support. Enjoy the day......tomorrow we have football and hockey to watch, so get all those chores done now so you have Sunday free for sports and beer. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at September 27, 2003 09:56 AMeMail this entry! ahte to tell ya guy, but you re wrong..the ONLY way we're going to make the playoffs and get better is by playing kids like Dominic Moore and Ortmeyer...youth brings a lack of complacency, something that the Rangers have been fat on for 6 years. With Mess and Simon in the line up , they have no shot. Posted by: dmill on September 28, 2003 09:31 AMPost a comment
