Monday Morning Edition
Monday - September 29, 2003

I re-watched some of the game and the first period was.....well, boring. I love it. The Rangers played smart and didn't allow the baby Bruins much in the way of scoring chances. When the ice opened up a bit in the second (a 5 on 3 will do that) the scoring started. I would love to see that repeated many times this season.

While much could be made on Purinton fighting McCarthy, the fight itself wasn't much of a fight at all. More hugging than punching from what I saw. Maybe they go again in the next pre-season game they play. I wouldn't make much of it although Newsday has an un-named ranger saying, "that was a long time coming".

Newsday - So forward Richard Scott's energetic game last night and defensemen Fedor Tjutin's first strong performance of the preseason in a 4-1 win over the Bruins at Madison Square Garden mean Glen Sather and company might have to think a little harder about who stays and who goes.

The Daily News - If Eric Lindros plays a nasty, productive preseason game at the Garden and there's nobody there to see it, do the home fans greet him with a new sound when he touches the puck in the regular season?

NY Post - So there was Sandy McCarthy in the Bruins' lineup for last night's exhibition match at the Garden, and so, too, Ted Donato. And hey, one-time Blueshirts Michal Grosek and P.J. Stock also were wearing Boston white. But Bryan Berard, another old acquaintance, was not as the Rangers won 4-1.

NY Times - Tjutin, who was chosen in the second round of the 2001 entry draft, was paired last night with the Rangers' highest-profile free-agent signing of the off-season, Greg de Vries, and the two fit seamlessly.

The Journal News - His defensive play was markedly improved yesterday, and he worked hard for his goal. Bullying the puck behind the net, Tjutin moved to the right post and eventually stuffed it behind Andrew Raycroft for a 2-0 lead at 14:21 of the second period.

North Jersey.com - "I thought [Markkanen] played well," coach Glen Sather said. "He was tracking pucks, he was square to the puck and the shooters. I don't know what happened on the last goal."

The two players from Canada who were detained for 19 days in Sweden are going to sue.

The Lightning remain unbeaten in pre-season with a 3-2 OT win over Florida.
