Wrapping Up The Pre-season
Saturday - October 04, 2003
After the 2-0 win last night in NJ, the Rangers face the Bruins tonight in the final tune up before we begin the regular season. In case you were wondering, the Rangers did not pick up CuJo....nor did anyone else. Brian Leeds has a new Between Periods for you.....and it's a part one. Knowing Mr. Leeds....that doesn't mean there is a part two. The Hockey Rodent has apologized to Glen Sather. Hell hath frozen over. What's next....Islander fans hanging out at Hockeybird ? Oh...right, Melvin is here all the time. Our Czech reporter, Coat will be interviewing Petr Prucha....Rangers prospect. If you have a question you'd like answered....send it directly to Coat and he'll try and get it answered. Newsday - Eric Lindros, continuing his physical play in the preseason, threw a big hit on his old nemesis, Devils captain Scott Stevens, in the first period. Daily News - "It feels good," Lundmark said. "I came into this camp with the mind-set that I had to make the team again. It's kind of a different game for me, but I think I've adapted." NY Post - "I don't like to compare players, but Sheldon can go to New York and become their Darcy Tucker," Frost told The Post. "That's the kind of guy Sheldon is; gritty, a real pain in the butt to play against, someone who will stand up and be counted for his teammates, and who can be a factor on offense. NY Times - Twenty players changed teams in the draft, and goaltender Curtis Joseph of Detroit was not among them. The return of Dominik Hasek to the Red Wings after a one-year retirement made Joseph expendable, but there is $16 million left on his contract. The Times also had this blurb - Goaltender Jussi Markenen, who finished with 19 saves, had scoring support from Bobby Holik, with a short-handed goal, and Anson Carter, with a power-play goal, both in the first period. Journal News - "Eric blocked a shot, and (Martin) Rucinsky did on the same shift,'' Sather said. "I want everybody to. I don't think there's anybody on the team that shouldn't block shots. (Lindros) has got good timing, he's not going to put his face in front of a shot. That's part of being on the team.'' NorthJersey.com - Holik spoiled things for his former teammates with a short-handed goal at the 10:06 mark of the first period, when he stole a pass near the top of the circle and blasted it through the legs of Vezina Trophy-winner Martin Brodeur to take a 1-0 lead. Slam has this on the old guys playing in the NHL....and no, they are not all Rangers. Sportsnet.ca - Already facing felony charges for a high-speed crash that left a teammate in a coma, Atlanta Thrashers all-star Dany Heatley learned Friday that he will require knee surgery. Our buddy Jess has an article on Outsidethegarden. Believe it or not, Jess and I are buddies now....no kidding. The same can not be said about Dubi from RFC and I......kinda sad eh ? If you have already read the article on the labor talks going sour....my apologies. But keep in mind, whenever you smile during this season....it will quickly be wiped away as I expect a ton of these articles all season long. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at October 04, 2003 09:26 AMeMail this entry!
