First Place
Sunday - October 05, 2003
The slate has been cleansed......wiped clean to a point. Last season is in the past along with all the others. A new season is about to begin. What it will bring us is a guess at this point as I can see both good and bad seasons as a possibility. Of course, like you I yearn for a good one......and there are signs that the Rangers could do well. But they are the Rangers and that means bad stuff can and will happen. But for now.....we are tied for first place and in the hunt for a post season spot, just like everyone else. Cross your fingers and do all those good luck things you do......for we need all the positive vibes we can get. One more season.....one last chance. Newsday - "Yeah, we're the New York Rangers, there's a lot of history, a lot of talent, and we're in the greatest city in the world," said Eric Lindros, one of several marquee names in need of a turnaround. "But none of that wins you hockey games. Let's read the writing on the wall here - we've got to make ourselves a good hockey team before we can even think about getting any farther than that." Daily News - The poster children for bad investments, the Rangers start the season saying goodbye to Mike Richter, good luck to Pavel Bure and good grief! Is Brian Leetch injured again? Post - In claiming three players in the Waiver Draft - Bouchard and wingers Sheldon Keefe and Mike Siklenka, who all played yesterday - the Rangers were required to drop three players from their own protected list. The Post has learned that the Rangers exposed, in order, Darius Kasparaitis, Chris Simon and Dan LaCouture. All are considered to have cleared waivers. Post SlapShots - If the Rangers get off poorly, if Bobby Holik either isn't being used as a traditional checking center or isn't thriving in that role on Broadway, the Rangers will look to trade No. 16. And, because they simply won't be able to resist the impulse - and because it can't make financial sense any other place - they'll be looking to Washington and Jaromir Jagr. NY Times - Rangers goaltender Mike Dunham had a solid game with 27 saves, including 12 in the second period. His best save came when wing Ivan Huml broke in alone midway into the second period. Journal News - Rangers general manager/ coach Glen Sather said he plans on selecting his opening-night roster from what he has available now, though he won't rule out making a deal before Friday. Enjoy your football Sunday. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at October 05, 2003 10:47 AMeMail this entry! Comments
Someone needs to tell the Daily News to dump Sherry Ross. She's a hack, plain and simple. Posted by: Scott on October 5, 2003 04:06 PMPost a comment
