The Final Cut
Tuesday - October 07, 2003

Finally I understand the feelings of the few -- ashes and diamonds, foe and friend, we were all equal in the end. Aside from Fedor Tjutin and Richard Scott that is. Newsday discusses the final cut. For those of you who are upset over Tjutin being sent down, John Dellapina of the Daily News, (we'll get to that article in a bit), has the following words of wisdom:

"Though he impressed late in the preseason, the 20-year-old Tjutin's development requires the kind of ice time he would not get with the Rangers as a sixth or seventh defenseman."

Back in Newsday, Sather echoed this sentiment saying, "When we picked up Bouchard, I didn't think it made a lot of sense to keep [Tjutin] here until we want to keep him here and play him."

The Star Ledger also covers the cuts. So does The New York Times, but in a much less interesting manner.

I mentioned something about the Daily News earlier. Their article mentions the cut but focuses on the fact that our power play unit is all hopped up on Jolt Cola. The Rangers recipe for success on the power play? Capitalize on other teams' hatred of Bobby Holik. "Holik has told teammates his effectiveness in the slot is largely due to enraged opponents focusing on whacking him."

Finally, the Post discusses the Poti, de Vries pairing. The two complement one another nicely. "I like your hair," says Poti. "Why thank you, my good man," replies de Vries. "And might I say that I am in great admiration of you ability to do more things offensively while I hang back to play a solid defensive role." "You are most kind," says Poti. "Did I mention that I like your hair?"

Yes, there is a lot to look forward to this season but nevertheless, I think of all the good things that the Rangers have left undone and I suffer premonitions, confirm suspicions of the holocaust to come. No, actually I'm kidding. I'm looking forward to the season. Let's get it on!

Three points to Bug for working in the lines from an obscure Pink Floyd album.

Probably my all-time favorite Floyd album.

Guess there is no need to point out to Slats then if Tjutin is ever called up that he would most likely start his NHL career as a 6th or 7th defensemen.

If the kid earned the right with his play to be on the roster then why isn't he? When even the Debbies across the river can find places in their lineup for 2 rookie defensemen and the Rangers can't it is a sad state of affairs.

Of course while everyone is acting as if Holik on the PP is a wonderful and great idea will they feel the same way when Holik continues his career trend of taking bad penalties and kills off Ranger PPs?
