Cowboy Up
Saturday - October 18, 2003
There is no truth to the rumors that the Rangers have adopted the "Cowboy Up" rally cry and have shaved their heads. It is possible however that Don Zimmer did in fact attack Mark Messier. Zim mistook the Moose as a Red Sox player when he saw that shining head. Can the Rangers score a goal ? Tune in tonight to find out. Coat has interviewed Ranger prospect Petr Prucha. You'll find it in the Birdcage. Brian Leeds gives you fantasy people another installment of his fantasy hockey column. The Rodent compares the Sox misfortune to the Rangers.....kinda. Newsday - There were signs of life in the physical play of Anson Carter and the flickering scoring chances for Alex Kovalev. Darius Kasparaitis and Joel Bouchard were the best defense tandem. And Mike Dunham's excellent performance is a big step in the right direction. Daily News - Asked about the way he was greeted by the Garden crowd (with lusty boos), Sather replied: "I thought it was great. I think the crowd was fine. They got behind the team and it was a good game for us." NY Post - Eric Lindros, hampered by a sore right knee, and Mark Messier, nursing an undisclosed injury, both missed yesterday's practice. Perhaps not so coincidentally, Sather revealed that the team has signed Pascal Rheaume to an AHL tryout. Rangers were concerned enough about Lindros, who apparently twisted the knee during last Saturday's game in Columbus, to send him for an MRI. Results showed no structural damage, and No. 88 is expected to play tonight, as is Messier. Speaking of the Post.....I'm sure you've seen by now the article printed yesterday on how sad it was for the Yankees to have lost to the Sox. We have confirmed that Larry Brooks had nothing to do with this gaffe. Journal News - Rheaume joined the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' AHL affiliate, Thursday after signing a tryout contract. Rheaume, who has played for four franchises in six NHL seasons, made $575,000 last season and had one goal and two assists in 24 postseason games while centering the Devils' fourth line. Star-Ledger - "Mike's been a role model for me since he was on the 1988 Olympic team, when I was in high school. It's just awesome that the New York Rangers fans are great, and remember everything he's done here for the Rangers." Over at NJ.com, two brothers are blogging on the Rangers.....make sure you stop by and check it out.....and yes, they read Hockeybird. If you have an NHL contract there's a good chance that your papers were dumped on a Montreal street.....I really hate thieves. A few days ago I posted on the boards here about how happy I was to see Jamie McClennen get a shutout. Jamie was kind enough to help me with my game while he was an Islander. Congrats Dude ! We'll be back later to cover tonight's game.....no, not the World Series....the Rangers. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at October 18, 2003 09:26 AMeMail this entry! Comments
