Brevity Is The Sole Of Wit
Tuesday - October 28, 2003
Especially when you have a 9:30 marketing meeting to get to. Accordingly, today's column will be based entirely on headlines and a quick scan of the articles in question. Before we get started, here's a fun game to play -- see how many correspondents list Richter's retirement amongst this season's injury woes in order to make us seem more cursed than we really are. Okay, let's hit it. The Rodent kicks things off by playing Russian Roulette with unsigned plays and pending free agents. He's like Christopher Walken with a single pair of chisel edged incisors in each jaw. Heather is the only other person not to talk about Kovalev today. She chimes in with another of her excellent updates on the youth movement in Hartford. If you're not reading her column, On The Farm, you are clearly a crack addled lunatic in need of hospitalization. The Daily News, with regard to Kovalev's injured knee says, "At Least It's Not Broken." Indeed, Kovalev may play tonight. Now for a series of bad puns based on headlines with the idea being that I read too fast and got it wrong: Andrew Gross at the Journal News says "Kovalev Hurts Me." Newsday tells us that "Kovalev Will Be Spiffy For Tonight's Game Against Anaheim." The Star Ledger -- "Kovalev Says He Can Play With Himself." Or With his injury -- one or the other, I'm not sure. The Post -- "Kovalev's Leg Hurts." While Kovalev is anxious to play tonight, Sather would rather not take chances early in the season. The Post also has updates on Leetch and Lindros. Leetch has been skating regularly and should be practicing soon. He may be back within the next 10 days. Lindros is expected back a week from tonight. Okay -- I gotta go.
