Hockeybird.com: Messier Sucks (and so do I)

But the last few games have changed that mental image for me. What if you do bring your kid to see Moose play and he sucks ? Well, that's what's been happening ever since the Dallas game where Mess overtook Gordie Howe.

Last night as the Rangers were getting beat by the Oilers I watched in horror as our captain, Mark Messier...one of the all time greats lost the puck in his own end. He hooked the Oiler from behind, not once moving his skates. As the Oiler player dragged Messier up the ice they passed the Ranger bench where Messier released his hook and then waved on another player with a look of disinterest.

Folks, I have tried to stay positive this season. But I have to admit, it's getting harder with each poor outing. In fact, I owe an apology to Larry Brooks and some other great Ranger sites (RFC for one) who have been yelling about this team since July. I thought that we could give these guys a chance to adopt this "system" while getting comfortable with each other. I have even complimented Slats on his coaching.....but I'm not blind. If Slats benched Lundmark for some turnovers the other day how is it that Messier still gets a regular shift ?

Look, I love the Moose. But let's get real here. He's missed easy tap in goals, makes stupid, blind backhand passes at the worst possible time, glides around instead of skating and his minutes are not the least bit effected. Shame, shame, shame......on Moose as he should not allow this to happen. Shame on Slats for letting him get away with it and shame on me for not reacting to this sooner.

The local writers today asked why the line combos which led to a decent 3 week run have been changed. Good question. I'm sure I saw Messier's line (with Simon & Barnaby) getting a few extra shifts as they were playing well but they were part of a four line rollout. I'd swear after the first four games where a lot of people were screaming for some changes that Slats said, "hey....let's stick with this for a bit". He did and it paid off.....now why screw with that ?

I will not spend the rest of the year screaming and yelling about how bad the Rangers are or what they should do about it.....I just don't have it in me. I was hoping that it wouldn't be needed and that all the negative crap I had been reading would be proven wrong. Nope.....it is I who was wrong. I'll shut up now...and all of you may say I told you so.....as I deserve it.

I can't defend Messier, I can't defend Slats....not anymore. I won't be on the front lines screaming for their heads.....others will do that but I can no longer try and be the calming voice of reason.....it's no longer reasonable.

Patients/Patience is a homonym and a virtue. Spell check would not have helped. Bird has plenty of credibility. I saw the faux pas and let it go. Tolerance is a virtue, also.

Man, r u 4 real. Give the guy a friggin break you moron. The guy is 42 years old turning 43 you jackass. Obviously he is going too show it at some times, don't forget man he is the rangers leading scorer (which is pretty bad). He has 7 goals already this season. He's the second greatest scorer in the history of the NHL and you want to say on your dumbass websitre that he "sucks". We'll man i betcha u wouldn't say dat to his face just on your cheap ass no good for nothing stupid website....no your facts before you accuse someone on the way they play. He made the N.H.L don't foget. So he obviously doesn't suck aight. "peace"

Jesus, what school did you go to ? You make me look like a Yale grad. Sorry you don't like the site....had you read it you would know that I have said that Messier is the best player I have ever seen play live.

And for the record, I would tell Mark to his face that he's playing terrible lately. The Oilers game was one of his worst. I'd also tell him that I think he's been a great player in his 25 years in the NHL....but it's time to let it go.
