Yo' Captain's So Old...
Tuesday - November 18, 2003

...He'll be playing in Saturday's Heritage Classic Old Timer's game in Edmonton.

At least, so sayth Wayne Gretzky and The New York Times. By contrast, The Journal News says Messier may play and Larry Brooks at The Post says that Messier should play.

The rest of the news today is all on the same topic but I'll try and make it interesting for ya'll anyway.

Newsday reports that Dunham's groin hurts. Everyone is questioning Mike's ability to play back to back games at this point and it's likely we'll see Jussi Fruit in action tonight against the Sharks. Also, Theo Fleury fans will appreciate the gratuitous Sharky The Shark punching incident reference.

The Star Ledger reports that LaCouture broke Mike Dunham. "I was just sitting there in the locker room," says Dunham in a quote I just made up, "when Danny came walking in and I felt a twinge." Also, Lindros is still waiting for the blood to drain from his eye. Haven't the Rangers trainers ever heard of leaches? Just slap a leach on his eyeball for a day or two and he'll be good to go.

In The Daily News, Sather suggests that Dunham's injury might be psychosomatic and then laughs because he doesn't really mean that -- he's just making fun of Bure's career ending injury. (Okay -- I'm misrepresenting that and being needlessly inflammatory but, as there only seemed to be two news stories today, I figured I'd have to get a bit creative to hold your attention.)

Those of you who read Heather's latest gripping installment of On The Farm may have been wondering about Richard Scott's fate following the Samurai swat he took at a Monarch who had speared him in the throat and punched him in the face. We, the answer is that Scott has been suspended for two days. The moral of this story is that it's never okay to try and take someone's head off.

Let's end on a positive note, shall we? Free medium coffee at Participating Dunkin' Donuts today. Rock!
