Don't discount those two points picked up last night as small potatoes. Had they lost they'd have little time to rebound for tonight's game against Toronto (on Metro TV here in NY) and it was possible that they'd begin to see the most faithful fans walking away. Really, it's that serious. And, in this playoff race the two points surely are needed.
Now I don't believe we'll see this as any sign of a turnaround.....but c'mon, you can't kill 'em for winning.....can you ? Larry Brooks of the Post can. What is in the mind of a guy who writes a "you suck" article in response to a win ? Sure he's right that the effort last night won't be enough tonight.....but how about a little smile from the guy ? I know Mr. Brooks has a sense of humor....or at least he had one....what a grinch. But Larry is the ONLY beat writer that posted this kind of article. I have to give him credit for that.
Wait....I take that back. The Rodent also penned a similar post but did so in a more entertaining way. But then again, nothing about the Rodent is "beat".
Newsday at least tries to give you the positives.
The Daily News goes too far in their praise. My two girls would have played well against Buffalo with Lindros as their center.
The Times has a similar piece on Sather being a genius.....or something like that.
The Journal News also talks up the tinkering by Sather.
The Star-Ledger say the same stuff but in a different way using different words, giving the appearance that it's somehow different....but it's not.
Looking ahead to tonight, the Leafs won a 1-0 game over the Wild last night and this article suggests that Belfour has been the difference in the last few. I say we run the guy....hell, run everyone. If tonight gives us anything like the last game with these two teams we'll be in for a real hockey treat. Somehow I don't think that's what will happen though, but I can dream.
