Kovalev Slumps
Monday - December 22, 2003
The Hockey Rodent has some words on possible trades. In case you missed it, here's yesterday's Rodent rant. A quick glance at this mornings newspapers tells you a few things. Alex Kovalev is in a slump. The Rangers kinda stink. Every beat writer wrote the same article. (except Larry) It happens very often throughout the season and I know I mention it when it does but I'm at a loss as to why. It's not like they are all writing about the same big event, one which would warrant such coverage. No, they just happened to pick today to tell us about Kovalev's slump. Why not yesterday ? Why not last week ? No.....today. It's a phenomenon I don't understand......but really, who cares ? We got Boston tonight at MSG. Kovalev articles: Newsday, Daily News, Journal News, Star-Ledger. That leads us to the NY Post and Larry Brooks. I don't even know where to begin on this one. OK, he complains about a :30 difference in icetime. Look, the game in Ottawa was not about who got what ice time.....Slats did fine there. The puck didn't go in, that's all. Larry then mentions that Kovalev is slumping (to stay in the writers club) while adding Nedved's line to the list of the missing. Then there is this......"anyone who believes that the Rangers aren't seriously contemplating a move for Curtis Joseph - who had three outstanding games for Detroit last week - is delusional." Delusional ???? You are suggesting that an older, much more expensive and not as good statistically goaltender is needed to replace Dunham, and I'M DELUSIONAL ? Overpaid old guys.....we have plenty, thanks. Besides, wasn't it you Larry that told me this team is way too old ? "It's time to move Lindros back to right wing with Holik and Rucinsky, time to use and ride Holik and Lindros in tandem to establish a hard forecheck game with some promise of finish. It's time to get Simon - whose summer free-agent signing we mistakenly ridiculed - and Barnaby back with Mark Messier, and to give these wingers power-play time Sather has doled to Carter and Hlavac." Move Lindros to wing......WHY? So you can slam Sather for not using him at center ? Frankly, Larry writes the best Ranger column in NY if for no other reason than he gets us talking.....and he admits that he makes mistakes (see the Simon reference above). The truth is that the other writers can't really make mistakes because they all write the same stuff. So, I'll keep pointing out the problems within a Larry Brooks column but will also remind you that he at least tries. Sure, a lot of the stuff from Larry I have read has been pure BS.....but it sure beats reading the boring stuff from the others who by the way have detention today for copying each other's work. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at December 22, 2003 09:25 AMeMail this entry! Thanks for the links to the Kovalev "yahtzee". I blogged about it this morning. Posted by: Tom Benjamin on December 22, 2003 03:00 PMLarry boy isn't saying you'd be delusional not to want Cujo instead of Dunham. He's saying you'd be delusional if you didn't think Slats was considering it. I agree with him there... after all, Slats IS a complete imbecile. Just my opinion. Posted by: CaptainObvious on December 22, 2003 04:21 PMLarry is dead on yet again in my book. This guy is the ONLY one making slats uncomfortable and I love him for it. I think his point with Lindros and Ned wasnt about a mere 30 seconds, but more so about Ned getting a lot of minutes even though he's played horrifically for months, and while other guys play better they shoud get more minutes than those who are mailing it in. BTW, did any one else notice how me$$ was on for all 3 goals against despite only seeing 12 minizles of ice? Score aould have been worse if he got his usual 17+.. Posted by: Dmill on December 22, 2003 05:09 PMCaptain.....Larry is trying to create something out of nothing. But you are correct in your observation....since I know the guy, I think I know what he's trying to do here, and that's stir up trouble on the CuJo front. Sather would be NUTS to even talk about getting Cujo. Dmill (aka Larry lover) The ice times were perfect in the ottawa game, Mr. Brooks should have waited until Nedved was given much more ice time than Lindros to make his point. Instead he looks like he's bashing Sather. If he was trying to say that Petr wasted his ice time then he could have said so. As I posted today, Larry is the best out there (in NY). He drives me nuts....but he is the best. ----}- Posted by: Bird on December 22, 2003 05:51 PMLarry dosen't know what he is talking about. Post a comment
