News In Boxers
Tuesday - December 30, 2003

Okay, here are links for those who have been anxiously awaiting and/or have not figured out how to use the address bar on their browsers...

Let's start things off with The Post where Larry Brooks disagrees with board regular Kubera. Kubera felt that Dunham's goals were weak and poorly timed and labeled him 3rd goat of the game. Larry sez, "Dunham was organized, technically sound and quick."

My favorite part of this article, however, is the new trade rumor that Larry has made up now that he can't pretend Cujo is coming to New York. He refers to Sean Burke as, "Sather's most likely hypothetical trade target now that Curtis Joseph is off the market..." It never ends.

Meanwhile, The New York Times, seems to agree with Brooks' assertion that Dunham is auditioning to keep his job. We know this because Jason Diamos states, "Mike Dunham, the Rangers' No. 1 goalie, may be in the process of auditioning to keep his job." But my favorite part of this article comes with the following nonsequitur dropped randomly in the middle of the article:

"Khabibulin, who turns 31 next month, is scheduled to make just under $4.5 million this season and then $6.5 million next season." Fascinating. Are you trying to imply something Jason?

Newsday, whose URLs seem to get longer everyday, note that the breaks finally went our way last night. That's good for confidence and hopefully represents a turning worm. Arthur Staple may be the master of the obvious but, I think we will all agree with him when he says, "Alex Kovalev's scoring touch seems to be on permanent vacation."

The Journal News has an important coded message for one of our board regulars:

"Hockey 101," Phoenix coach Bobby Francis said. "Two minutes to go, we
should know better than to drop the gloves or get into any type of
altercation."

The big question is, why is Phoenix coach Bobby Francis communicating directly with 101? Is 101 working to undermine the Rangers by consulting with opposing coaches? Or is he like a double agent feeding them bad advice? "Hey Francis -- 2 minutes left -- let's mix it up a bit! Nuke their asses!!!"

The Star Ledger sums up the game and notes that it felt good. Yes it did. As Poti Said, "We were down and out. And we came back." You know, it bears noting that the Rangers also battled back from a three goal deficit to get a point against Toronto. While that wasn't the prettiest game ever <---(understatement), the Rangers are starting to show that they can come from behind and that's far from a bad thing.

John Dellapina of The Daily News is in the unfair position of being listed last and, accordingly we may wish to accuse him of having nothing new to say but, then, how do we know that he didn't write his article first? We don't. But I am like God and I control your perceptions of the beat writers with my subtle spin. Any beat writers who frequent Hockeybird should know that I am a shameless whore and that they can send me PM with offers of perks in return for special treatment on the front page.

Happy New Years Eve Eve Ya'll!
