Rangers Hold On For 3-2 Win
Saturday - January 10, 2004
Man, was that a great first period or what ? It included every element of great hockey and while there were no fights it seemed like each player had to fight for each inch of ice. Lindros was dominating....again. Garth Snow was chased while Dunham was strong. Unfortunately for the Rangers they had to play a second period. I'm going to give the Isles credit....they played a great second period and scored twice. I got a knot in my stomach that still hasn't loosened. While the Isle picked it up the Rangers didn't match and it began to look like another bad loss. Period three was back and forth....the kid goaler for the Isles matched Dunham save for save. Both had brilliant stops and both had some close calls....neither relented and the final was indeed 3-2 Rangers. Jan Hlavac played and missed making it 4-0 as he missed a breakaway attempt. I had been pulling for him after his recent benching and interview with us here at Hockeybird. Dale Purinton also played and while his giveaways didn't do much for the knot I had going....they didn't lead to goals against thanks to the Dude. Those are two big points.....but they'll need to continue winning if the Rangers hope to escape January with a post season chance. Today felt a bit like the playoffs for me....I could sure use the real thing, no ? Discuss the game here on the boards. In the "are you kidding me?" department....5 consecutive shutouts. That's just insane. See ya on the ice tonight. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at January 10, 2004 04:44 PMeMail this entry! Comments
Too bad it was on ABC. I would very much like to have heard what Sam & JD had to say about DiPietro's leaving his stick to block the goalmouth when he was pulled from the net. So ridiculously illegal (and bush) that it seems not even to be covered in the rulebook. I hope we hear more about it this afternoon. Post a comment
