I Want a Do Over!
Tuesday - January 20, 2004

Remember when you were a kid and you could ask for a do over when you eff'ed up? Aside from golfers with their thinly veiled version of the do over know as a mulligan, the rest of us don't get to pull that crap as adults. On the birghtside, girls no longer have cooties. Also on the brightside, the Rangers get right back on the horse with another game against those animals from Boston. (Prior to his trade, Brad Park used to refer to Boston Gardens as a zoo and the Bruins and their fans as a bunch of animals.)

Anyway, the dailies are depressing today. Most of them seized on the obvious observation that we got our asses kicked both metaphorically and physically. A quick review:

Newsday is pretty much blah blah blah. "This is what happened; It was Ugly; we play again tonight." (Not a direct quote.)

The Journal News at least has some positive news on our defensive situation:

"I don't think it's bad," said Kasparaitis, who did not need crutches to
leave the building. "I don't think he meant it. Sometimes you try to make
a hit and things happen. I don't think he intentionally tried to take my
knee out."

Defenseman Boris Mironov, suffering from the flu, said he was feeling
better but was still scratched for a second straight game. He should
return today. ... Lindros scored the Rangers' second goal.

So, we get Mironov back tonight and hopefully Kasper is not out for long.

The Daily News turns in the worst pun of the day as Dellapina declares that a "Rugged rematch is Bruin."

The New York Times tries something even I don't have to audicity to try this morning -- looking on the bright side by observing, "Hey -- at least Lindros didn't suck!"

Even the normally positive Bridget Wentworth wrote an article for the Star Ledger which could have been boiled down to three letters -- WTF?

And, in The Post, Larry Brooks had the following to say:

It was the Rangers' poorest and most disappointing game since the opening weekend loss in Columbus, maybe the least competitive of the season. They were thoroughly beaten in every important element of the game by the Bruins here yesterday, losing a 5-2 matinee in which they might as well have been spectators.

I stopped reading after that because it was too painful. Is it tonight yet?

Funny how Brooks calls out half the team and rails on their inept 3 minute 5-on-3 but doesn't say a single peep on his boyfriend Leetch, who quarterbacked that power play to it's ineptness and has been playing like crap most of the season. Oh, but he's hurting so let's give him a break, right Larry? Blah blah blah. Such a harsh critic... except when it comes to his friends on the team.

Jesus, Larry, take it easy. At least the Bruins are good and Lindros effed up Thornton. I'd say the Calgary game a few weeks back was a hell of a lot worse.
