Traded !
Friday - January 23, 2004

Reports....well, rumors circulate that the Rangers will trade for Jagr. After last night's loss to the Flyers (4-2) I'm sure those who are casual fans would welcome such a deal. But the hardcore fans....you guys who read Hockeybird know that this is nuts. Even Gary Thorne of ESPN who knows little about the game and even less on how to pronounce Dale Purinton's name thinks it's nuts.

I give up....no sense steering now. Hockey as we know it hasn't been much fun in almost 7 years now and the end of this season will bring a work stoppage. We may as well screw it up more, right ?

Of course I need to mention that Mark Messier has been named to the all-star team. While it's kinda cool that the legend will skate in Minnesota....it's also a bit embarrassing too, don't cha think ?

The Post is always a good source of rumors....here's Larry.

Here's Larry's game recap.

Even that maven Jay Greenburgh adds his two cents.

Newsday on a possible trade.

The Daily News has their trade talk here.....and Mike Dunham's concussion here.

The NY Times has all of it's Ranger coverage in one article.

The Journal News checks in with a similar story.

The Star-Ledger joke that despite needing defensemen, Jagr is the answer. They also cover the Dude's head.

From the Washington Post - Jagr has told friends he is convinced a trade will be completed very shortly and, sources said, has already made provisions for how to ship his equipment to New York. League sources indicated, however, that neither club's owner had been presented with a formal trade to sign off on and they cautioned there was a chance negotiations could fall apart as they have in the past.

Here's the Washington Times - Jagr, who traveled to Florida yesterday with the Caps for tonight's game at Florida, couldn't be reached for comment last night. Earlier in the day, he had been in a particularly downcast mood after practice and said he didn't deserve to make the All-Star team after he was selected last night.

Welcome to NY Mr. Jagr. We need an all-star who didn't play pro hockey in the '70s. You'll like it here. Good Czech food can be found. Casinos are very close by. And just like Washington and before that, Pittsburgh.....winning hockey games just isn't that important.

hockeybird and hockeybird readers,

i am here to give you all the early scoop. i'm being traded from washington to NY. the deal, as i am told, goes like this: glen sather and jan hlvac for me and washington's equipment manager (whatever his name is, i hate this team) the equip. manager will take over head coaching duties for your deteriorating hockey team. am i excited to be coming to your town? yes. but that's just it, i only want to come to NY to live. i figured maybe i would make a few mills off of optimistic suckers like you and then rent an apartment in the city for around $345,823 a month. besides, i hear the hookers are great there. and no i don't mean messier and his jet skiing skills either. look out old man, here comes your replacement! see you for the ottawa game!

Finally I have a winger to help me score more goals. I mean come on Barnaby and Simon on my line. How am I suppose to earn my money? Jagr, you are most welcomed. Speaking for the entire team we all know that the equipment manager will do a BETTER job than sather.

I'm sure you know this but, according to TSN Canada, it's done, pending league approval.
