Let The Bashing Begin
Sunday - January 25, 2004

You know it's funny.....had the Rangers won last night the hockey writers would be talking about how a deal like this one could spark the lethargic Rangers into playoff contenders. Of course they didn't win.....9-1 is beyond a loss. It's a complete catastrophe. Ugliness looks at a game like this and cringes. So the writers will be all lined up to bash the Rangers. Frankly, Sather and his merry men have done little to deserve anything different. So, let the beatings begin !

Wait....I almost forgot. One must stop and read the Rodent so as to sound knowledgeable when pontificating on the disconsolate and lamentable game we witnessed last evening.

Newsday - When word came last week that something big was brewing, getting another fading player wasn't the news their fans wanted to hear. They wanted a body, all right, but preferably Sather's.

Newsday - "I came here as a 31-year-old, washed up, past my prime," Messier joked yesterday, referring to some naysayers back then who thought his best days were behind him.

Newsday - It was the worst Rangers loss since a 10-2 drubbing by Quebec on March 6, 1993.

Daily News - It is possible that Jagr's Rangers debut could have gone worse. But with the exception of a major injury to him or one of his new teammates, it is hard to imagine how.

Daily News - "This should be the best time of his life coming to New York, not only from a professional standpoint, but from a personal standpoint," said Messier, who became a Ranger for the first time in 1991 and three years later led the franchise to its only Stanley Cup in the last 64 years.

Daily News - Besides, if this afternoon follows Ranger history, Jagr will collide with Jed Ortmeyer in one of the skills events and be injured before he even gets to make his home debut tomorrow night against the Florida Panthers.

Damn....that's only two papers.

NY Post - This was a game that exposes the talk about progress to be as credible as an announcement from Baghdad Bob. This was a game that, once and for all, exposes the Rangers for the world to see.

NY Post - Other than being poorly coached, goaltending is the team's major issue, and has been for weeks, Mike Dunham's health aside.

NY Times....here, here and here.

Journal News...here and here.

Star-Ledger - "I believe, fundamentally, we are the worst team in the National Hockey League," a quietly fuming Holik said.

Star-Ledger - "When I look at this team, it's the most talented I've ever seen. There is so much skill, so much size. If we can get together, this team can do a lot of damage in the playoffs."

You know....he's right. But you need to make the playoffs. I think they will. And I think they will do some damage.....what the hell, anything is possible and as Monty Python used to sing, always look on the bright side of life.

"So always look on the bright side of death!
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true,
You'll see it's all a show,
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you!

And always look on the bright side of life...

I wonder if there's room on the devils bandwagon??? Because I can't take anymore of this!!!!!!!!!!

Room ? Sure, there's plenty of room.....the Cup champs don't sell out at home. What a shame, we have a huge fan base just yearning for some winning hockey and the Champs can't draw a crowd.

While I respect the Devils success, I won't be joining thier ranks.....I'm stuck here with you guys.
