Boy Are My Arms Tired
Tuesday - February 10, 2004
Because I just got back from Florida. Maybe I told that wrong. Let's try it again... I just flew in from Florida and boy do I hate Glen Sather. I don't know -- I guess stand up comedy is not in my future. Let's see what's happening in the news. Rodent gets us started with his Curse of The Sakic theory. It somehow lacks the same ring as "The Curse of The Bambino." Gabe is channeling The Lion King this morning with a new Fact or Fiction entitled GM Circle of Life. You see, when a GM dies, he becomes the grass, then the next GM is an antelope who comes and pisses on the grass killing all of the young legacy players the prior GM tried to leave in his passing. And then the Hyenas eat the owners. Or something like that. You'd better go read the article. Me? I just got around to reading Leedy's column from last week (so good we linked to it twice!) so I'm beyond caring. Kinda of like Mike Dunham. In today's Star Ledger we learn that Dunham is pretty much like, "F' you Sather." His actual quote, in response to his feelings about Sather' recent vote of no confidence, was, "You know what? I really don't care." Here's what Sather had to say: "I don't want to analyze our goaltender in the newspaper, because he's going to read a lot of this stuff. I think it's always more mental with goaltenders than anything." Okay then Glen. I have a recommendation. Why don't you shut your friggin' yap? Way to ruin another perfectly good goaltender Sather. We manage to break two of them this year. And what mediocre piece of crap will we bring in to replace the perfectly good goaltenders Sather destroyed with his mismanagement? I'm with Dunham on this one. At this point, I really don't care. Larry also covers the Dunham issue in today's Post only he uses the worst headline of THE YEAR. Seriously, I know that it's still early February, and I'm aware that it's a leap year so we'll have 366 days but honestly, can you imagine a beat reporter coming up with a headline worse than, "NOT DONE-HAM YET"? There are some interesting bits in Brook's article beyond the Dunham stuff. For those of you who enjoy discussing the optional practice thing, here's some info for you: While Jaromir Jagr skated with linemates Bobby Holik and Martin Rucinsky, fellow All-Star representative Mark Messier took the option given both players, and did not practice. For those of you ingesting sleeping pills, spit them out -- we finally have a bit of good news. Greg DeVries is expected back tomorrow night. Also, Fedor Tjutin was called up from Hartford yesterday leading to a spirited debate on the boards regarding his injury status and the likelihood that he might play. Well, Larry attempts to settle the issue: Fedor Tyutin, recalled from Hartford yesterday, skated with Dale Purinton and is likely to make his NHL debut tomorrow night. The 20-year-old defenseman has not played since sustaining a sprained right MCL in an AHL game in Houston on Jan. 8. "I feel pretty good," he said. "I think I'm ready [to play in the NHL]." Of course, The New York Times completely contradicts this so please feel free to continue debating: Because Tyutin has not played since he sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee on Jan. 8 while playing for the Rangers' minor league affiliate n Hartford, it remains unlikely that he will make his National Hockey League debut on Wednesday night in New Jersey against the Devils. Instead, Tyutin will most likely return to Hartford on Friday night. Also from the Times, we hear that Malakhov tried to practice yesterday but had to leave the ice. Finally, in The Daily News, John Dellapina found some nut job who thinks that the league should force Lindros to retire. Shall we try one more time? I just flew in from Florida and boy is my hockey team listless and lacking in heart. Whatever. I don't care. -- Rightbug Posted by Cliff at February 10, 2004 11:07 AMeMail this entry! Comments
Go easy on Brooks - it's not usually the beat writers that write their headlines (as a rule, reporters/writers don't write titles/headlines - layout and editing peoples do). Probably some poor intern's first week on the job. well, we can keep hoping that. Posted by: LeNea on February 10, 2004 04:03 PMPost a comment
