Day is done.....

taps
This has been one of the few places on the internet where you could expect a positive vibe on the Rangers when most other outlets were busy kicking the team, it's management and owner. I see no way to continue that trend today.

With nearly everyone calling for the head of Glen Sather at this point I can't see my way to defending him. The record stands on it's own. The results are what they are and no amount of spin can change that. Sure, the intention was to return the team to the playoffs and give the fans something to cheer about......and I know Glen and his boys feel badly about what happened. But I'd feel silly posting some speech on how things will get better.....or how perhaps the Wolf*Pack guys will make the big club in coming seasons and replace our current set of losers. Yes, I said losers.....look at the record boys.

Before we get to the Ranger news, congrats to Heather and her Wolf*Pack. They now have recorded 15 shutouts this season.....and Jason Labarbara has 12 of them. Pretty damned impressive eh ?

Newsday - "Embarrassing is a word," Matthew Barnaby said. "I don't even know why I came out here [to talk to reporters] because there's really nothing to say. I don't want to give excuses or lie to you guys."

Daily News - "If I could give you an explanation that made sense, I would absolutely give it to you," he said. "You sit up at night and wonder and pore over things and ideas, trying to figure out why we've done what we've done. I can't give you an explanation, because it doesn't make any sense." - Slats

NY Post - Larry rips the team and it's coach and GM.

The Times article is here.

Journal News - Perhaps it is not shocking that the Rangers cannot handle the slightest bit of success.

Star-Ledger - It's a pattern that has killed the Rangers for years: the inability to string solid performances together and build a run.

So perhaps the team is poorly constructed. Blame the GM. But how does that explain the fact that Dunham played well against the Islanders and was as bad as I've seen all year last night ? Make no mistake.....the goaltending was the big factor yesterday. Martin Broduer made some key stops early while Dunham was out of position, not squared to the shooter.....and giving up rebounds I could score on. As far as blame to the coach.....yup, where was the time out at 0-2 ? Why wasn't Dunham pulled earlier ? Why don't we see an angry coach ripping his players at the bench ? Why Why Why ?

Herm Edwards, NY Jets head coach was on the spot in a bad season as he looked into the cameras and stated, "You play the games to win". From Slats I get....."I don't know", sounding more like my four year old than an NHL head coach. Maybe you guys are right....maybe it's time for Glen to go. Judging by the low traffic here yesterday even this teams most dedicated fans have lost interest. That will force the Dolans to do something.......let's just hope it's not something stupid. Remember, be careful with what you ask for.....you might just get it.

One last note from me before I look for something that isn't about the Rangers to do.....I will break my self imposed exile from MSG and attend a game. Thanks to Daria, longtime Hockeybird reader for the Tix. Why would I go ? Cut me....I still bleed blue.

Slats has not coached or put together a team via GM'ing that has played over .500 in 12 years. FIVE HUNDRED! Not been to a Cup final, PLAYED OVER .500! This guy is the one of the worst GM's in the history of the game. Period.
