Pacing and Smoking Cigarettes
Tuesday - March 02, 2004

That's what we are all metaphorically doing as we await news, any news. I suppose it's a good thing that today is a light news day as I had all of my teeth yanked yesterday and am feeling surly and laconic. (Okay -- it was only two teeth but I had a good night at poker so I'm considering having some more pulled.)

The Rodent reminds us to Czech our propects, particularly Petr Prucha and Jan Marek. He discusses these prospects in the context of Extraliga, "the premier hockey league of the Czech Republic." If there is an extended lockout next season, I'm going to start a league of my own and I'm going to call it the Extra League. Players will choose it over the WHA because of the cool name. Holy crow -- I could write a whole column on this subject so I'll stop now.

In today's Daily News, Tjutin and Renney both express their hopes that Leetch remains a Ranger. This is one of those arguments that can go in circles with no right or wrong answer -- just opinions. They make an interesting case. Especially if we're not going to get much in return for him. Of course, there are equally compelling arguments on the other side.

The Post has some trade talk, mostly focused on Leetch.

Which is suprising because, according to The New York Times, the Devils acquired Kovalev in exchange for Christian Berglund and minor leaguer Viktor Uchevatov. Oh wait -- sorry, that's Kozlov, not Kovalev. (Board regular Redlight pulled that one on me last night as we played poker.)

Actually, anyone who has been following the news or the boards is well aware that the Rangers have actually sent Kovalev to Buffalo for Miroslav Satan. Kudos to Board regular Hockey101 to be the first to post that bit of hilarity. It would be sweet if it turned out to be true but, as Satan mentions, it just doesn't make any sense.

That's it. No more news for you. Maybe there will be a big trade today but I suspect not.
