Brian Leetch, NY Ranger
Wednesday - March 03, 2004
Stanley Cup Champion, Norris trophy winner, New York Ranger What else can be said about one of the best players in the history of the team ? But the fact is.....it's time to begin again. Mark Messier remains the only player from the 1994 Cup team....when he is gone we can return to building a proper team. With Brian going to Toronto I will at least follow his play, who knows....maybe the Leafs finally do it this time. And....I don't get the idea that this is the last trade we'll see from Slats either. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at March 03, 2004 08:35 PMeMail this entry! Comments
I'm so sick over this. Heartbroken, like the day they traded Brad Park and Jean Ratelle to the Bruins. It's like a kick in the stomach that never goes away. I never forgot that day of the "The Trade" and I won't forfot this. NOW MORE THAN EVER SATHER MUST GO Posted by: mhurley on March 3, 2004 10:27 PMDaria, Relax. I know....it's Brian. But look at it this way, he'll get to play in the playoffs...maybe even win a cup. He would not get that chance here....not this year or next. It's time to rebuild and look towards the future. And no one can ever take away what Brian did for us....he will ALWAYS be a NY Ranger and you know it. Just make sure you say hi for me when they retire his # 2 as I'll be long gone....in Florida. It's OK...be mad, get it out of your system. but trust me....this is for the better of all involved. ----}- Posted by: Bird on March 3, 2004 10:27 PMWhats wrong with you people? This IS the FUTURE! Insane, Ranger fans never get it! It drives me insane! We FINELY make a move towards the future but instead this nostalgic crap comes out CAN WE MOVE ON ALREADY?? Posted by: Jim on March 3, 2004 11:36 PMHere Here Jim...we don't know if Slats and Co acquired a good enough return yet, and we wont for a while. What we DO know is that sticking with Leetch and Mess was not, is not and WILL NOT work. This has been a longtime coming and the Rangers are well served to acquire as many picks and prospects as they can. Each one of the picks so far has upside. With leetch, it was only downside. We can only hope now that Mess is dealt, along with Barnaby, Malakhov, Mironov, and even Holik. It's over folks. Welcome to the new Rangers. I guarantee you will not be disapointed in the the effort given by them over the next fews year. Kids are hungry and have something to prove by nature. and they re ours. Leetch and Richter are icons of the Ranger Sweater, they brought the Cup, but they cant play forever. It's time to find new guys who can carry the torch and become synonymous with Rangers. This is the best day in Ranger history since 6/14/94. Posted by: Dmill on March 4, 2004 11:24 AMNo Dmil I agree, we dont know that these prospects will turn out. But what we do know is that FINALLY, the Rangers are going to another direction, one that should have been taken a half decade ago! Its the philosophical change. We were going nowhere and everyone knows it. I also believe firmly that Sather should have been gone eons ago, but to our dismay he is still here. I dont know if the Rangers are going to get it all right.. This howevere is a step! Posted by: Jim on March 4, 2004 05:16 PMPost a comment
