1984 - Flashback
Saturday - March 06, 2004
I am flashing back to the 80s the last couple of days as I am preparing to sell off my record collection. I discovered many cassette tapes of club performances and live bands. In just about each one I mention the NY Rangers....how cool is that ? In one tape I'm intro-ing APB from Scotland. This was the night the Rangers and Flyers went into OT and delayed the start of the show. I remember asking Ian Slater (APB's bass player and lead singer) if it was ok.....he said, "Bird, it's your show....your stage.....do what you think is best." The Rangers won (displayed on a huge screen covering the stage) the place went nuts and APB came out and kicked ass. I actually have this on tape.....just before intro-ing the band I congratulate the Rangers. So....the Rangers won last night. Um.....yea ? Newsday - So this is what it has come down to at Madison Square Garden as a hideous Rangers season fades: An AHL goaltender nicknamed Gonzo, a brief chorus of "Go Leafs Go" and a cheer for Aragorn (visiting actor Viggo Mortensen). Daily News - What little market there was for Eric Lindros probably dried up with the club's announcement that the season-long pain in the big center's shoulder was a torn labrum. NY Post - "It's not the first and it won't be the last time fans here chant for Brian," said Barnaby. "He's never going to be forgotten here and should never be forgotten for what he's done for the team and the city." NY Times - A section of fans last night chanted "Leet-chee" on the game's first shift. Then the chants of "Go Leafs, go!" broke out for the rest of the game. Pigs fly and hell is ice cold. If the Garden ever chants "let's go Flyers".....I'll.....I'll.....nevermind, that will NEVER happen. Right ? Star-Ledger - "The second one kind of fooled me. I should have stopped it," he said. "You've just got to bounce back from that. I was kind of mad at myself, and I thought from there on in, I played pretty good. I made some saves at the end that I needed to make." Journal News - Forward Josef Balej, 22, acquired from the Montreal Canadiens Tuesday in the Alexei Kovalev deal, was scheduled to arrive in New York last night and may be available tomorrow. ... Leetch, interviewed yesterday on WFAN, insisted he holds no animosity toward Sather. "That's his job, his position, to make difficult choices to decide what's best for the organization,'' Leetch said. "Still, when it happens, it's a shock.'' I'll say. I'm still kinda in shock......oh, well.....GO LEAFS GO ! ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at March 06, 2004 09:16 AMeMail this entry! Comments
