DJ Bird's Monday Morning Madness
Monday - March 29, 2004

Yeah, with 'Bird away I was going to do the whole column today pretending to be 'Bird while doing all sorts of non-Bird like things such as endorsing John Kerry for president and threatening to move The Rodent's button but, seeing as it's his site, afterall, I decided to content myself with moving that horrifying picture of Messier and Gary Coleman down several inches. I'm sure you will all thank me for that.

Say, news is light this time of year. The Rodent never disappoints, however. His article this morning covers the possibility of a Hambugler signing and examines the feasibility of board member Jack27d's Hamburgler signing conspiracy theory.

Larry Brooks also discusses conspiracy theories in today's Post. Though Dick Cheney has claimed executive privilege, secret documents purportedly issued from his office apparently threaten sanctions against any team losing to the Rangers. Requests for Flyer's autographs can be sent to Gauntanamo Bay.

Brooks also talks a bit abut Stephen Valiquette who gets bonus points for siting advice given to him by the Beezer:

"I've met a lot of goaltenders over the years, and about the best advice I've gotten came when I was with the Islanders, when John Vanbiesbrouck told me that you have to adjust quickly to change."

Finally, Newsday notes an eerie coincidence -- Valiquette's last NHL start came at the end of a failed Islander season, a season marking their 7th straight playoff absense. Valiquette won that game as well.

As for those who would complain that the win may have cost us 26th place, I agree with Renney who says:

"The object here is to start to create an identity for the New York Rangers based on hard work, attention to detail and accountability. We have a long way to go and there's a lot of growth involved here, but these are good reference points to look back on as part of the process."

To make up for the lack of news, I will leave you with this shot of Valiquette using the force to remove Donald Brashear from the NHL:

I saw Valiquette play when he first came to the Wolf Pack. I really, really liked his style of play and he seems to have terrific potential. Let's remember something, most goalies don't really mature and start to reach their full potential until their mid-20's. Grooming a goalie can take a while. I'd really like to see Valiquette play again, even if it means we might win!!!
