Bork! Bork! Bork!
Wednesday - April 28, 2004
Look at that Henrik Lundqvist, will ya? Don't be shy, look at him! 2-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .927 SVP in the World Championships so far, including a 24 save performance in a 3-2 win over Russia yesterday. I'm going to make a prediction. While most people say he's a season or two of AHL development away, my guess is Henrik Lundqvist is the Rangers starting goalie next season, whenever that is, and that Sather already has this in mind. For one, he's 22-years old already, not an awkward 18-year old. Second, Sather had no problem immediately graduating Blackburn to the NHL in his first pro season even as an 18-year old, and Lundqvist is twice the prospect Blackburn was, even at that time. Prediction #2: Mike Dunham is somehow rid of, UFA Tommy Salo is signed and the Rangers go with the All-Swede goaltending corps. Watch. I'd start brushing up on your Swedish Chef now if I were you. Hmm. Just having to look through all sorts of Swedish Chef webpages has made me desperately want to go watch some Muppet Show DVD's and forget about updating the front page. Sigh. Maybe later. (Yeah, I turn 32 in a few months and have Muppet Show DVD's. What's it to ya? You probably still own and talk to your stuffed animals, you sick freak.) The Rodent is on about the officiating this morning. Can't say I disagree, but at the same time I'd rather see a playoff game under-officiated than over-officiated. Or, wait, would I? Now I'm not sure. I certainly don't want to see a team able to sit on a 2-1 lead in the 3rd period because they're allowed to lasso every forechecker to the ice in the final 20. But back to the other side of the coin, just the other night in the San Jose game Bill Clement nearly burst a vein complaining about the frequent and overzealous goalie interference calls in this playoff season. I guess the point is that the officiating is rarely going to be satisfactory, especially in the playoffs. That's why Bird pays me the big bucks, to come up with genius conclusions like that. Speaking of the playoffs, both of last night's were great games. Tampa Bay scored with 17 seconds left in regulation to tie the game then wasted no time in putting the Habs down in OT like the dirty, filthy dogs they are for a 3-0 series lead. Calgary/Detroit was also a pretty wild affair, both teams trading momentum for long stretches of time as the Flames held on to a 3-2 lead to take the series lead at two games to one. Flashbacks of Mighty Ducks are probably dancing through many a Wings fan's head today. News from the CBA front, the league and the players association will be meeting this Thursday for their first formal negotiations since October. Does anyone really expect any positive news to come from this meeting? I sincerely doubt it, but we'll see. Tonight's playoff schedule: Flyers @ Maple Leafs - 7pm, ESPN2 (Flyers lead 2-0) Avalanche @ Sharks - 10pm, ESPN (Sharks lead 3-0) Unteel tumurroo, remember, thoose cheeckens ere nutheeng boot truooble. Didn't Tim Conway do a swedish character on the old Carol Burnett Show? I now have visions of you in feety pyjamas with the trap door in back, dragging a Winnie the Pooh around, your thumb in your mouth.
