Lots to Cover
Friday - November 19, 2004

So I'll just begin...

The Rodent goes further into depth about the NHL's hidden (or not so hidden, depending on who you've been reading) desire to get an "impasse" called by the National Labor Relations Board, and what it might mean to Jiri Dopita. Yes, Jiri Dopita.

Yesterday, Larry Brooks wrote about the player agents fully endorsing the NHLPA's course of action.

Also from yesterday was a very critical article about Gary Bettman from the Denver Post:

The league was shut down by a commissioner who does not burn with the same passion for hockey as fans or players who grew up on skates, wishing every winter for the pond to freeze with the same giddy anticipation as the arrival of Santa Claus.

Bettman does not love hockey as much as you or I.

Which is scary-bad news for a sport Bettman seems willing to let wither in the name of dollars and sense.

One of the bigger news items of the day, and a question that has been on a lot of people's minds: There won't be an Entry Draft this June unless a CBA has already been agreed upon.

Gary Bettman plans to meet with the thirty NHL general managers on December 2nd.

Jeremy Roenick is the latest one to yell, "Why aren't they negotiating?"

ESPN's Scott Burnside has an article on the possible "drop dead date," the date when the entire season will be called off.

Those are the major items I've seen, anyway. There are a few other minor stories around if you feel like looking. Enjoy your weekend.
