Isn't That Just Super?
Sunday - February 06, 2005
One could argue that the NFL and American football in general is a North American game even though the eyes of the world look to Jacksonville, Florida today for the Super Bowl. Even if only to catch another glimpse of a naked breast, hundreds of thousands of casual fans will tune in. Add that to the millions of die hards and today's game is a huge event. On the flip-side, the NHL and hockey in general could be described as a much more international game. Strong leagues in Europe and fans of the game reside all over the world. Based on NHL rosters alone you could win a debate that the NHL is a much more international game than is football. Of course, the NHL is dark. Isn't that just super? I am preparing for a Super Bowl party while contemplating the demise of what was once the greatest sport on earth. I had considered wearing my Zubov Jersey but instead will don my old highschool football jersey, both adorned with the number 21. I can't help but think that in years past, the Super Bowl was something to watch while waiting for the next hockey game. Dan Blackburn recorded his first win in a long time.....and the first for his team in about 20 games. You can follow the Victoria Salmon Kings here. Congrats to Dan for taking the first step towards resuming his career. One of our readers is on a ship in the Indian Ocean giving aid to those effected by the tsunami. My hat is off to those men and women who serve our country and those who provide aid and comfort around the world. We are very proud of you all. Two winners of the Hockeybird T-shirts have been contacted with one responding already. Congrats to Frank from Brooklyn, NY. Your shirt will ship in a few days. Visit the Rodent......but be quite. He's napping at the moment. Enjoy today's game.......oh, and GO PATS ! I can't root for anything Philly thanks to Bobby Clarke and the Flyers. Too much hatred there. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at February 06, 2005 02:59 PMeMail this entry! Comments
