Tuesday Talks
Thursday - April 14, 2005
One year ago today, Rocha, one of Hockeybird's writers, was covering the playoff series between the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. He was mostly talking about the troubles of Alex Kovalev, who had been recently traded from the Rangers. There was plenty of news, and some exciting hockey to follow. Today, the best news I have for you is that the NHL and the NHLPA will resume CBA negotiations again next Tuesday, as the lockout and lost season enters its eighth month. The session will take place one day before the NHL Board of Governors is scheduled to meet in New York. The main topic expected to be discussed is the use of replacement players to start the 2005-06 season on time. Bob McKenzie writes that there is a large group of owners who want no part of it. He thinks it is up to Gary Bettman to make it clear what the course will be at the gathering Wednesday. Meanwhile, the union announced a general membership meeting that will take place on May 24th. Potentially 700 players could attend to receive an update on CBA negotiations, and to find out what the NHLPA's plans are. There is a new Birdcage up. Bird talks about some of the things he misses most about hockey. Not just watching NHL hockey, but the game itself. The Harford Wolf Pack were embarrassed yesterday on their home ice, as they lost 5-1 to the Manchester Monarchs. I miss playoff hockey, and I will follow the Pack closely, but if they don't get their act together and get some consistency, they won't be around that long.
