USA, USA!
Sunday - April 24, 2005
OK, it's only a tune up for the Worlds but anytime you beat a Canadian Club with some of the worlds best players it's a good win. The USA scored late in the third, 4.5 seconds to be exact to take a 5-4 lead. The Islanders Rick DiPietro stopped 27 shots while defeating Martin Broduer and Roberto Luongo. Here's Slam on the game. The Winnipeg Sun talks about the up and down results for team USA over the years. This next paragraph explains why as a hockey fan I will always be jealous of those who live in Canada. "I rode in with Doug Weight today and I told him that he could score a hat trick and lead us to a gold medal and he might get a paragraph in the St. Louis paper. In Canada, if a player makes a mistake which costs a game, when he goes home to Estavan, Sask., in the summer, he's going to hear about it." Here's Tim Panaccio from Philly explaining how a guy born in Toronto can score a goal for Team USA. In the under 18 category, the USA squad has remained undefeated in 13 contests. That's not bad, eh? They face Canada in the finals today, a team they have already beaten. Bobby Orr Speaks: Speaking of older players.......um, this speaks for itself. The game, officially titled the Viagra Legends of Hockey Classic, was organized as a benefit to raise funds for the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation. Plenty of names you know were playing in that one which raised a good amount of money. You may insert your own viagra joke here. The Wolf Pack lost game two. Most alarming to me is the 3000 people attending on a Saturday night. Where were the other 10,000? It's the playoffs fer crying out loud. OK, CBA stuff from Larry Brooks. He discusses the contract status of those players who's contract expires at the end of this 2005 season which didn't get played. If these guys are UFA's I'd look into bringing back Brian Leetch and Matt Barnaby. Those two vets would help round out the squad of kids we have pretty well. Honestly I have no clue on these contracts.....I'm an unfrozen caveman lawyer, these things confuse me. Perhaps the Rodent can figure it out. Uncle Larry did score the line of the day with this one: "Finally, Gary Bettman says he voted against replacements after voting for it. Worked for John Kerry." Finally, Inside Hockey has this on Sweden's outstanding goaltender (and Ranger's prospect) Henrik Lundqvist. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at April 24, 2005 10:07 AMeMail this entry! |
