Hold the phone!!
Friday - May 06, 2005

I was typing today's update when I came across what may be big news.

Sportsnet is reporting that the NHL tabled an offer at yesterday's meeting. The proposal is believed to contain a luxury tax system with a hard cap ceiling at some level. The article indicates the luxury tax would "trigger" a hard cap agreement with a ceiling at $35 million dollars. I will be honest, it isn't well written, and I am not sure what that last provision means. Stay tuned.

The league met with the NHLPA for three hours yesterday, and planned to meet again today. Neither side had any comments. Hey, three hours is better than nothing, but I would prefer them to sit together ten hours at a time.

The U.S. team lost to Canada 3-1 in the World Championships yesterday. The U.S. will face Finland in the qualifying round today.

The Rodent always has good stuff.
