HDH ripped all the hockey writers today (see below) for the wide variety of reports on the CBA talks. Let's face it folks, this entire process has been frustrating for those of us who love the game and would rather be discussing line combos than CBA crap. Yet, this is where we are.

Now in the past I have taken different writers to task for a variety of issues, including Mr. Brooks. Today, HDH asked why Uncle Larry's recent articles seemed to contradict each other. After further review, they don't IMO. Even my inside sources have indicated that a deal is within reach and they "expect" to have one in place soon. I chose the word "expect" on purpose. It's still possible that something pops up to ruin everything. Both the Rodent and Larry today warn us that the two sides still have much work to do. Neither one suggested that there won't be a deal. In fact, Larry stands by his Sunday article that both sides "expect" a conclusion to this mess. So do I. In today's column Larry just explains that we should not expect a deal in the next day or so. I agree, there's still much to be done and the Rodent has explained that in full detail.

As to the sources......all I can say is that Mr. Brooks is NOT a mouthpiece for the NHLPA. Oh sure, he's not on the NHL Christmas card list but then again, neither am I. Since I can't reveal my sources I have no expectation that any writer will reveal theirs, unless of course the source is 91 and needs the cash and had the goods on a certain President.

I feel the same frustration as HDH does but I don't blame Uncle Larry or even Stan Fischler, I blame Bettman and Goodenow.
