Wake me up when it's over
Saturday - June 04, 2005
Boring. That is a good description for the statements coming out of the NHL and NHLPA after they concluded three days of meetings. They agreed to meet again next week. Supposedly they are just continuing to go over financial and accounting issues. Yawn. Larry Brooks of the New York Post has an interesting article today. It seems that a good number of the rank-and-file members of the NHLPA feel like they were left in the dark by Bob Goodenow, as he left a message on the player-only website that didn't contain any details. Maybe the players understand a little how we, the fans, feel most of the time. Spector writes that there may finally be a reason to be cautiously optimistic. (Does everyone use that phrase just to drive me nuts now?) Ted Wyman of the Winnipeg Sun has some soothing words for those of us who want to bang our heads on the wall when we read anything about the CBA negotiations. The NHL is trying out some new ideas to open up the game once it resumes. The latest idea is to replace the blue lines with thin lines located several feet from the top of the faceoff circles. Once a players gets past that line from his own end, he can pass to anywhere on the ice. The Rodent has a couple of new tidbits over there. There is a new Birdcage up. Bird tells us to just relax and allow the negotiations to happen. He goes over the reasons for optimism, but warns not to get caught up in all the rhetoric and reports. I think his article may have been partially motivated by my blood vessel popping rant of two days ago. I am going to take his advice and just relax and let the news come to me. NAH. I am cautiously optimistic that I am going to bang my head on a wall if a deal is not signed . . . imminently. So there. Enjoy the weekend, everyone.
