The quiet men
Monday - June 06, 2005

It is a really slow news day in the world of hockey. After three days of meetings last week, both the NHL and NHLPA are keeping silent about where the CBA negotiations stand. They will pick it up again later this week. So far we don't know when or where.

Bird is keeping busy with another Birdcage. Today he writes about the potential log jam of goaltenders the Rangers may have once the NHL gets started up again.

Jim Kernaghan of the London Free Press writes that players really want to have fun out there on the ice, and the love of the game is what drives them. Eric Lindros comments: "I just want to go have fun again. The three years in New York were not much fun on the ice." It wasn't much fun in the stands either, Eric. At least YOU got paid to be there.

Sidney Crosby has some injuries and illnesses that are catching up with him after his super season. The NHL is holding the annual combines for potential draft picks, and Crosby was not able to participate in some of the tests. Believe me, he is still guaranteed to be the #1 pick if the NHL holds a draft this year.

The next two weeks are very important for the NHL. I expect the rumors to be flying furiously around the hockey world. I will try to sort them out to get a clearer picture of where they stand.
