Mixed reviews
Friday - June 10, 2005
The news about the tentative salary cap agreement has produced some mixed sentiments from the hockey world. Of course, we have to have the obligatory 'sources' that contradict the Globe & Mail report. Other reports confirm the numbers, but say that the system is not set in stone. I found this over at Andrew's Stars Page. Apparently Jim Lites, the Stars' president, said that the reports are consistent with what he is hearing. Lites also indicated that the luxury tax would be dollar-for-dollar, and that the goal of giving the players 54% of the revenues has been accomplished. The Rodent says 'not so fast' (again). He warns that until the deal is signed, nothing is concrete. He also used the "I" word. Slowly I turn, step by step . . . Scott Burnside at ESPN writes that there is still a lot of work to be done, and he gives a good recap of what we know, and what we don't know, so far. Al Strachan of the Toronto Sun writes that things can only be looking up for the NHL. Meanwhile, the NHL and the NHLPA agreed to meet again today after completing three days of negotiating sessions in New York. If you want a break from salary caps and CBA's, or if you just want to check out an awesome band, go see Unforgettable Fire at Peggy O'Neill's in Brooklyn this Saturday. As you might already know, they are a U2 tribute band, and I can tell you from firsthand experience that they really capture the look, the sound, and the feel of U2. One of our longtime messageboarders, Andy from the LES, works with those guys and asked me to invite everyone down. If you are in the area, or even if you are not, make your way to Bay Ridge for an awesome show. You can find out more here. HDH Posted by Jim at June 10, 2005 07:21 AMeMail this entry! |
