'Jeremy spoke in class today' - Pearl Jam

The biggest NHL news out there appears to be this Jeremy Roenick situation. He isn't taking back his comments of the other day, where he basically told fans to kiss his rear-end, but he is saying that they were taken out of context.

"Before I went into my rant, I was talking about the game of hockey, about getting it back on the ice, about what we have to do for the fans and telling people it's not about who wins or loses, it's about the game . . . But the media picked out the negative stuff. . . . Don't show snippets of the interview; show the whole interview, the whole message. My message during the interview was: How do we make the game more appealing to the fans?"

A couple of guys over at ESPN don't think that what J.R. did was such a bad thing. Terry Frei writes that Roenick's remarks draw some attention to the NHL. Ray Ratto kind of feels the same.

The NHL front office moves are still coming fast and furious over the last couple of days. As I mentioned yesterday, John Muckler has agreed to stay on as the Senators GM for another three years. Also, Pat Quinn signed a contract extension to remain with the Maple Leafs, and the Dallas Stars resigned head coach Dave Tippett and his assistants.

New York sports-talk radio hosts Mike & the Mad Dog (660 AM, WFAN) will be participating in a 24-hour radio show in order to raise money for the New York Safety Education Fund, the New York City Police Foundation and the New York Police and Fire Widow’s and Children’s Benefit Fund. Yesterday I heard that both Gary Bettman and Lou Lamoriello will be appearing on the show. I am hoping that Gary has something important to say, as he as been extremely quiet in the media over the last couple of months. The show begins at 5:00 pm on Thursday and ends Friday evening. I will try to find out when Bettman might be appearing and update you accordingly.

Keep your fingers crossed.
