Who is doing the typing?
Wednesday - July 06, 2005
I was just imagining these CBA meetings, with lawyers, players, and other committee members sitting there, debating and dictating how the documents should read. A funny image of Bill Daly sitting at a computer typing with one finger with 10 guys surrounding him jumped into my head. "Do we spell labor with an 'o' or an 'ou'?" or "How many zeroes in 'thirty-eight million'?" Or is there a stenographer, like in court? And how much does that person make? Couldn't we have thrown him or her a couple of bucks to become the best source in the world?? Anyway, while those guys peck away at the keyboard, the business of hockey continues to gain momentum. The NHL director of hockey operations, Colin Campbell, is busy with his new competition committee trying to establish what new rules will be implemented when hockey resumes. There are reports out of Canada that are saying the Detroit Red Wings are interested in bringing Mike Babcock in as the head coach. Some teams are setting their ticket prices, and I have to say that overall it looks like NHL fans will be getting a bit of a break on ticket prices. There are still a number of teams who have not announced their plans yet, so the outlook could change. Sidney Crosby has signed a three-year endorsement deal with Gatorade, and supposedly it is the richest deal any hockey player has signed with the company. Scott Burnside at ESPN talks about the huge amount of work the NHL needs to do to revive the game. HDH Posted by Jim at July 06, 2005 07:30 AMeMail this entry! |
