Bobby Holik Bought Out
Friday - July 29, 2005

It's official. After a few days of guessing you can all relax now, Bobby Holik was in fact bought out by the NY Rangers.

You can look at this any number of different ways. Holik was indeed paid a ton of cash although the Rodent will point out that at least two other teams offered almost as much as Slats did. The freed up cap room over the next two years can help the Rangers stock up on younger players provided that they can find good solid free agents at low prices. Getting UFA's to come to NY will now be different as you can't just throw a ton of cash at 'em. There is also a thought that a few of the really high caliber UFAs next season can now possibly be had.

Bobby is a high quality player but never did fit in as a Ranger. He showed up out of shape in his first season and was injured.....something that didn't happen when he was a Devil.

Hopefully this move indicates the rebuild process is still a go. In that vein, two more top prospects were signed during Slat's "fishing trip".
