Messier To Retire?
Sunday - August 07, 2005
With all the free agent signings this past week it was hard to keep up. Today is kinda light in the news dept. but I did manage to find a few bits of juicy news. From the Edmonton Sun comes this little blurb: Mark Messier has decided to retire from hockey, or at least that's what he's telling people. Expect an official announcement soon. I hope it's true and I look forward to celebrating his great career as they honor him at MSG and I'd imagine they'd do the same in Edmonton. I can't tell you how lucky I feel that I was able to see his last game and for the 416th time I thank Daria and her husband for sending me their tix for that game. The same article says that Steve Moore has been cleared to return to play opening the door for Bertuzzi to return as well or one would think. Todd is one of the few players I'd like to see in NY in the next few years when the rebuild is ready for the next level. Bettman is in Russia trying to negotiate an IIHF deal. The Rodent comes through with not one but two articles for your reading pleasure. Those of you who get Fox Sports New England will be treated to some good new TV viewing from our neighbors to the north. You can always check out our friends at the BlueShirt Bulletin for links and opinions. Outsidethegarden is also a great resource for Ranger Fans. The big theme seems to be the small market teams spending cash on UFA's. Even I jumped in to trash the Pens before being corrected by some of our board members. While it looks like the Pens and Oilers are spending like the Rangers of old, the numbers don't back that up. I believe the Rodent correctly pointed out that the length of the deals is what could cause the trouble, not so much the $$. I still feel all the roster movement will make for an interesting season, it's more about hoping some of these teams fail as opposed to having any hope for a great Rangers season. I'll pop back in later on if there's anything worth posting about news wise.....until then, enjoy your summer Sunday afternoon. ----}- Bird Posted by Bird at August 07, 2005 09:12 AMeMail this entry! |
